    Getting Started Before you begin, gently pull the battery insulation tab to remove it. Follow the Arrows The flashing arrows on the right of the screen show which arrow keys you can press to move around menus or view more text. Help is Always at Hand You can view a help message at any screen by pressing HELP.

    Viewing a demonstration or tutorial You can view a demonstration or tutorial of this dictionary and Bible any time you want. Each book has its own demonstration. 1. Press 2. Use the arrow keys to highlight Setup. 3. Press ENTER to select Tutorial or use To stop the demonstration or exit from the Tutorial and go to the Word Search screen in the dictionary or the Verse Reference screen in the Bible, press CLEAR.

    When using this product, you can adjust the type size, the shutoff time, and the screen contrast. The shutoff time is how long your unit stays on if you forget to turn it off. 1. Press 2. Use the arrow keys to highlight Setup. 3.
  • Page 8 Moving Between the Dictionary and the Bible If you are reading the Holman Bible Dictionary, touch BIBLE at any time to go to the Holy Bible, New International Version. If you are reading the New International Version, touch DICT at any time to go to the Holman Bible Dictionary. Referencing a Verse When you are reading a particular entry of the dictionary, you can go directly to refer- enced verses in the Bible.
  • Page 9 Looking up a Word When you are reading a particular verse of the Bible and see a word you want to learn more about, you can directly look up that word in the Holman Bible Dictionary. For example: 1. Press CLEAR to go to the Verse Reference screen. 2.

    If you are not already in the dictionary, touch DICT. 1. Press CLEAR or touch FIND to go to the Word Search screen. 2. Type a word or words. For example, type steadfastness. You can enter up to 35 characters. To type a space, press SPACE. To erase a let- ter, press BACK.
  • Page 11 Just as if you were using a concordance, you can search for almost any word or phrase in the Bible. In the Bible, touch FIND to go to the Word Search screen. Simply enter search words to find their occurrences or matches. After a word search in the Bible, only those books with matches are listed in the Menu.

    If you are uncertain about how to spell a word or if you wish to find prefixes, suffixes, and other parts of words, type an asterisk ( ) in a word. Each asterisk stands for a series of letters. Note: If you type an asterisk at the beginning of a word, it may take a little while to find the matching words.

    You can expand your search to find inflections, synonyms and similar words. 1. Touch FIND. 2. Type your search word(s) and press ENTER. For example, in the Bible, type sanctify. If necessary, to go to the Bible, touch BIBLE and then begin again with Step 1. 3.

    You can also search for a word by highlighting it in an dictionary entry or Bible verse. Try this example. 1. If you are not already in the Bible, touch BIBLE. 2. Press CLEAR. 3. Go to Isaiah 12:2. To learn how, see “Finding Bible Verses.” 4.

    In the Bible, to go directly to a specific Bible verse, enter its book title, chapter number, and verse number. If you enter only a book title and chapter number, you will go to the start of the chapter. If you enter only a book title, you will go to the start of that book.

    Adding Entries You can store as many as 100 names, telephone numbers and addresses in the databank. The total number of names you can add depends on the size of each entry. 1. Press 2. Touch DATA. 3. Highlight Add an Entry and then press ENTER. 4.

    Installing Book Cards 1. Turn your product off and turn it over. 2. Align the tabs on the book card with the notches in the slot. 3. Press the book card down until it snaps into place. Warning: Never install or remove a book card while your product is on. Any infor- mation that was entered in the built-in book or book card will be erased.
