6.5 Distance

6.5.1 Distance sensor

The distance sensor is ultrasonic radar. It sends ultrasonic pulses to the
moving body and measures the time it takes the reflecting waves to return to
the sensor. Knowing the sound velocity, 340m/s, it then calculates the
distance.
Note: the sensor – body distance should be more than 40cm.

6.5.2 Smart pulley

Measures the position of a string tangent to the pulley.
The photogate head attached to the pulley counts the number of slits that
passes through it and the timer calculates the distance the string traveled.
