Fuel Tank

Draining the Fuel Tank
POTENTIAL HAZARD
In certain conditions fuel is extremely
flammable and highly explosive.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
A fire or explosion from fuel can burn you,
others, and cause property damage.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
Drain fuel from the fuel tank when the
engine is cold. Do this outdoors in an open
area. Wipe up any fuel that spills.
Never drain fuel near an open flame or
where fuel fumes may be ignited by a
spark.
Never smoke a cigarette, cigar or pipe near
the tractor.
1.
Park the machine on a level surface to assure the
fuel tank drains completely. Then disengage the
power take off (PTO), set the parking brake,
lower the attachment lift, and turn the ignition
key to "STOP" to stop the engine. Remove the
key.
2.
Close the fuel shut–off valve at the fuel tank
(Fig. 35 & 36).
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run the engine until
it uses up all of the fuel and stops. The fuel
injector pump on the engine requires fuel for
lubrication.

3.
Loosen the hose clamp and slide it up the fuel
line away from the fuel shut-off valve (Fig. 36).
4.
Pull the fuel line off the fuel shut-off valve
(Fig. 36). Some fuel will flow out from the hose
as it is disconnected from the valve. Attach a
5/16 ID hose to the valve to help drain the fuel
into a container. Open the valve and allow fuel
to drain into a fuel can or drain pan. Dispose of
fuel properly.
IMPORTANT: Do not turn or unscrew the
fuel shut–off valve.
5.
Install the fuel line onto the fuel shut-off valve.
Slide the hose clamp close to the valve to secure
the fuel line (Fig. 36). The fuel shut–off valve
should normally be left open, except for service
on the fuel system or when the tractor is
transported on a trailer.
