Children or bystanders may be injured if
they move or attempt to operate the mower
while it is unattended.
Always remove the ignition key and move the
motion control levers to the brake position
when leaving the machine unattended, even
if just for a few minutes.

The Safety Interlock System

If safety interlock switches are disconnected
or damaged the machine could operate
unexpectedly causing personal injury.
• Do not tamper with the interlock
switches.
• Check the operation of the interlock
switches daily and replace any damaged
switches before operating the machine.
Understanding the Safety Interlock
System
The safety interlock system is designed to prevent
the engine from starting unless:
• The blades are disengaged.
• The motion control levers are in the brake
position.
The safety interlock system also is designed to stop
the engine when the control levers are out of the
brake position and you rise from the seat when
the blades are engaged.
Testing the Safety Interlock System
Test the safety interlock system before you use
the machine each time. If the safety system
does not operate as described below, have an
Authorized Service Dealer repair the safety system
immediately.
1. While sitting on the seat, with the control
levers in brake position, and move the blade
control switch to On. Try starting the engine;
the engine should not crank.
2. While sitting on the seat, move the blade
control switch to Off. Move either motion
control lever to the center, unlocked position.
Try starting the engine; the engine should not
crank. Repeat with the other motion control
lever.
3. While sitting on the seat, move the blade
control switch to Off, and lock the motion
control levers in neutral. Start the engine.
While the engine is running, move the motion
control levers to the center, unlocked position,
engage the blade control switch, and rise
slightly from the seat; the engine should stop.
4. Remove the collection bag. While sitting on
the seat, start the engine and move the blade
control switch to On. The blades should not
engage.

Adjusting the Height of Cut

The height of cut is adjusted from 1-1/2 to
4-1/2 inch (38 to 114 mm) in 1/2 inch (13 mm)
increments by moving the height-of-cut lever in
different locations.
1. Raise the height-of-cut lever to the transport
position (also the 4-1/2 inch (114 mm) cutting
height position (Figure 14).
2. To adjust, pull up on the height-of-cut lever
and move it to the desired position (Figure 14).
