OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPRESSED GAS REGULATORS
DO NOT OPERATE THIS APPARATUS UNLESS YOU ARE TRAINED IN ITS
PROPER USE OR ARE UNDER COMPETENT SUPERVISION
IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TO REMEMBER
Always have a fire extinguisher handy.
Secure cylinders to cart, wall or post to prevent them from falling.
All cylinders should be used and stored in an upright position.
Never drop or strike a cylinder or use a damaged cylinder.
Never use oil or grease on any inlet or outlet connections or cylinder valves.
Examine hoses for cuts, burns or worn areas before each use. Also inspect fittings
and replace any found damaged.
Do not repair hose with friction tape.
Always wear gloves made of leather or a suitable substitute.
Always wear welding goggles with proper filter lenses.
Do not wear torn or ragged clothes. Sparks can ignite ragged ends.
Never use oxygen or fuel gas to blow soot or dirt off of clothing.
Never test for gas leaks with a flame. Use approved leak-detector product.
Upon completion of work, inspect area for any possible fire or smoldering material.
Working pressure on an acetylene regulator should never be set above 15 PSIG.
SET UP AND OPERATION GUIDE
1.
Secure cylinder in upright position. (As noted in safety precautions.)
2.
Inspect the cylinder valve for grease, oil, or damaged threads.
CAUTION: If oil or grease is found in cylinder valve, discontinue use of
#
cylinder immediately and contact your gas supplier.
3.
While standing to one side, rapidly open and close ("crack") each cylinder valve.
This clears the valve of any foreign material.
CAUTION: Do not open the cylinder valve any more than is necessary to
#
clear the valve port. Opening the valve to much may cause the cylinder to
tip over due to the force of the escaping gas. Do not stand in front of valve
port.
4.
Confirm that the regulator has the correct pressure rating and gas service
connection for the cylinder being used.
5.
Inspect the regulator inlet connection for grease, oil, or damaged parts.
CAUTION: If oil or grease is found in the regulator inlet connection,
#
discontinue use of regulator immediately and take it to a qualified repair
station for cleaning.
6.
Attach regulators to proper cylinders. Use a wrench to ensure tight connections.
NOTE: When using a flowmeter regulator, regulator must be positioned
#
vertically in order to obtain accurate flow readings.
7.
Turn regulator adjusting screw or knob counterclockwise to release any pressure
on the adjusting spring. Close shut-off valve on flowmeter regulator.
CAUTION: Failure to release pressure on the adjusting spring before
#
opening cylinder valve can damage diaphragm and render the regulator
inoperable.
8.
While standing with the cylinder valve between you and the regulator, open
cylinder valve slowly and check for leaks. Use only an approved leak detector
solution.
CAUTION: Do not stand in front of or behind a regulator when opening
#
cylinder valve. Acetylene cylinder valves should be opened a maximum
9.
Attach hose as required, and tighten nuts with wrench.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPRESSED GAS REGULATORS
10. Purge Hose in a well ventilated area.
a. Turn regulator adjusting screw clockwise (flowmeter shut-off valve
counter-clockwise) to allow 5 PSIG to pass through hose.
b. Allow the gas to flow approximately 10 seconds to purge the hose.
c. Turn regulator adjusting screw counter-clockwise (or flowmeter shut-off valve
clockwise) to stop gas flow.
11. Attach required equipment to hose and tighten with a wrench.
12. Using adjusting screw (shut-off valve on flowmeter regulator) adjust regulator
delivery pressure or flow as required for your application.
WHEN YOU FINISH USING THE REGULATOR
1.
Close the cylinder valve.
2.
Open the valve on the downstream equipment to release all pressure from the
system.
3.
Close the valve on the downstream equipment after system pressure has been
released.
4.
Turn adjusting screw counterclockwise to release tension on adjusting spring.
5.
After a few minutes, check the gauges on the regulator to ensure that the cylinder
valve has been closed completely.
6.
Remove regulator from cylinder if necessary.
