Using Emboss to Make Patterns and Characters Stand Out Using a gloss layer provides an uneven surface, creating an embossed product. Because the gloss layer can result in a slightly yellowish color, the gloss layer should be placed under the pattern. However, the color of the gloss can affect the color of the pattern, so a white layer must be printed between the gloss and the pattern.
