To set up the Hafco AL-960B lathe for screw cutting a 1.5mm pitch thread, follow these steps:

1. Change gears: Refer to the lathe’s gear chart (usually on the machine) to select the correct gear combination for 1.5mm pitch. Install the gears as indicated.

2. Set the gearbox: Adjust the quick-change gearbox levers to the position specified for 1.5mm pitch.

3. Engage the lead screw: Ensure the lead screw is engaged by using the half-nut lever.

4. Set the tool: Mount a threading tool at the correct height and perpendicular to the work.

5. Align the compound: Set the compound slide to 29 degrees for better cutting of the thread flanks.

6. Start threading: Make light passes and use the thread dial indicator if available, or engage the half-nuts at the same point for each pass.

Always turn off the lathe and disconnect power before changing gears or making adjustments.
