3 System Description

3.1 Product design

The MRM 01 is an optional part of the MAS. One or up to eight MRMs can be connected
to the MAS base unit through RS-485 Modbus. This enables the MAS to communicate
individual alarms on the separate monitoring channels to relays and LEDs on one or more
MRMs.
The pump sensors are connected to the MAS base unit, and it is the base unit that
monitors the pump and detects unhealthy conditions. The individual alarms are
transmitted to LEDs and relays on the MRM.
The configuration of what alarm that triggers which relay on which MRM is done through
the MAS embedded webpages. Sensor configuration, alarm limits, and more settings are
also done through the webpages.
If no settings are done, then the MAS and one MRM are preconfigured to replace a CAS,

3.2 Usage

Monitoring system and relay module as spare part for CAS
A MAS that is complemented with an MRM enables separate indication and relay output
for each monitoring channel in the same way a CAS does. It makes the monitoring system
fully compliant as a CAS replacement.
How to make a strict CAS replacement using the MAS base unit and an MRM is described
in
Replace CAS with MRM and MAS
Language independent monitoring functions
A language independent monitoring solution for large pumps is obtained by using a MAS
base unit and letting two or more MRMs replace the text screen of the operator panel. The
LEDs on the relay modules make it possible to distinguish between alarm channels. The
output relays can be connected to, for example, control panel lamps. The configuration is
done by using the MAS embedded webpages.
PLC communication
It is possible to use several relays as an alternative to serial communication between the
monitoring system and a PLC. Up to eight MRMs can be set up to transmit alarms. The
configuration is done by using the MAS embedded webpages.
