Pool solar cover

Most pool solar cover manufacturers and vendors supply reflective storage devices in light,
opaque colours that protect the bubble cover from the sun rays and heat. A solar cover reel
will make the cover easier to handle and can help prevent accidental damage or tearing.
Without the reel, mounting and removing of the cover will require at least 2 people.
Storage
The best way to store your solar blanket is on a solar cover reel. The blanket is attached with
straps to the reel and reeled in when not in use. Most reels have a hand wheel to roll up the
cover and store it. Store the cover properly even if you only swim for a few minutes. Even this
short time can be harmful for the pool blanket.
You can remove the blanket from the pool, roll it up and put it in the garage and shed. The
solar blanket should be stored in a covered and protected area below 45
Clean the cover before storing it for the winter. Do not leave the solar cover outside in winter
unless it is in use on the pool.
Before rolling up the cover, first fold in the parts that form a flap or that lie over a step. This en -
sures that no excessive tension is exerted on it and that the cover can be rolled up easily.
Before storing the cover, make sure that both sides of the cover are rinsed with fresh water.
This is not relevant if you are going to put the cover back on the pool within 24  hours. Clean-
ing prevents damage to the cover caused by residual chlorine. When you put the cover back
on the pool, roll out the cover a little and hold this piece up so that an arch is formed, if neces -
sary (for larger pools) hold up the other end and walk slowly along the side to the opposite
side of the pool.
The cover will reduce the amount of dust and leaves that fall into the pool in windy weather
(without the cover the leaves will land on the bottom of the pool). Blown dust and leaves can
be swept up from an area and then removed or sprayed in the direction of the skimmer while
the filter is running.
Cleaning tips
The best way to clean the cover is to use a solar cover cleaner. Moisten the solar cover and
use a telescopic rod and a pool brush. Squirt the solar cover cleaner on the cover and clean it.
You can also clean the cover while it is on the pool. When you are done, take a hose to splash
the dirty water into the skimmer opening. It will be much easier to do if you remove the solar
cover from the pool and place it on the lawn.
If you have a sloped lawn, lay the cover on top of it and flush directly the solar cover. For quick
cleaning, you may leave the cover on the swimming pool and proceed with flushing. Flush the
debris directly into the skimmer opening or corner and use a net to catch the debris. Always let
the cover dry before rolling it up.
To prevent damage to the solar cover, do not drag the solar cover against the chafing pool
floor, brickwork, or other sharp and rough surfaces. For this reason place the cover reel as
close as possible to the swimming pool. If your pool is oval, the widest part of the pool will
show less resistance to the reel.
