How Your Cobra Marine VHF Radio Works
Secondary Icons
This radio is a battery-powered portable transceiver for use afloat. It gives you
two-way vessel-to-vessel and vessel-to-shore station communications, primarily
for safety and secondarily for navigation and operational purposes. With it, you
can call for help, get information from other boaters, talk to lock or bridge tenders,
Notice
and make radiotelephone calls to anywhere in the world through a marine operator.
Besides two-way communications, the radio can provide quick access to receive
all the NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) weather channels

and alert you to weather emergencies with a tone on a weather channel you can select for
your area.

To fix the no sound and no backlight issue on your Cobra Marine MR HH350 FLT radio, try the following steps:

1. Check Battery: Ensure you are using the Cobra-provided drop-in charger and the rechargeable LiON battery pack. Do not use alkaline batteries in the charger. Replace fully discharged alkaline batteries with fresh ones if used.

2. Power On: Turn the radio on and check if a tone (beep) sounds when pressing buttons. This confirms the radio is responding.

3. Key Tones and Backlight: If key tones are turned off, you may not hear a beep. Turn key tones on to confirm button presses. The backlight should turn on and stay lit for 10 seconds after a button press.

If the radio still has no sound or backlight after these steps, the unit may need service or replacement.

NOAA broadcasts a 1050 Hz tone that receivers such as your Cobra Marine VHF radio can detect and warn you of a weather alert condition.
