Installing the Equipment
The SurgeProtect Kit includes an HE surge arrester, a SurgeFuse, and a Surge Detector. The surge arrester and SurgeFuse
work together to protect remote monitoring units and devices from lightning strikes and other electrical surges. The
Surge Detector keeps track of surge events and related information, which is then transmitted to Bullhorn Web.
WARNING
To prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage when handling electronic equipment, always wear an
:
anti-static wrist strap attached to an unpainted, grounded metal object. Ensure the wrist strap has maximum contact
with bare skin.
WARNING
Before beginning any wiring, disconnect all equipment from hazardous voltages.

Install Surge Arrester & Surge Detector
Connect surge arrester to rectifier or device according to the instructions included with the arrester
1
(Surge Arrester - High Energy Installation Quick Reference Guide, part number 122186-000). Complete
only Step 1.
NOTE:
If the surge arrester was already installed, disconnect the surge arrester's white ground wire from
its ground location.
Cut off the spade connector from the end of the surge arrester's white wire.
2
Thread the surge arrester's white wire through the hole (marked Pulse) on
3
the Surge Detector's current transformer.
Connect a spade connector (included in kit) to the end of the white wire.
4
Connect the white wire to same ground location as before, which should be the
5
same point as the Bullhorn unit's ground.
Wire and connect the Surge Detector to the Bullhorn remote monitoring unit's accumulator channel.

Install SurgeFuse
1 Place the SurgeFuse between your facility and your Bullhorn remote monitoring unit (RMU).
2 Connect an output from the facility to either Ch A or Ch B on the SurgeFuse.
OR move the connector currently connected to a channel on the RMU to either Ch A or Ch B.
Repeat for a second output if necessary.
3 Wire and connect the corresponding output on the SurgeFuse (labeled RMU)
to the input channel on the Bullhorn RMU that is used for that facility
output. Repeat for a second output if necessary.
4 Connect the SurgeFuse's green ground wire to the Bullhorn RMU's ground
screw inside the unit's enclosure.
Remove the first screw terminal from the Bullhorn unit channel that is monitoring one of the device inputs.
1
IMPORTANT:
Connect the terminal to one of the connectors on the SurgeFuse.
information regarding wiring and the relationships between the devices.
Remove the second screw terminal from the Bullhorn unit channel that is monitoring another of the device

inputs. Connect the terminal to the other connector on the SurgeFuse.
If wires are to be buried or covered, use conduit to protect the wires.
