APPENDIX D:
Descriptions of selected components, signaling, and
architecture

Robin (N601) Key Features

- Transmitter chip: both Cell & PCS
- Supports IS95, IS2000 & AMPS
- Input is baseband IQ signal, output is RF signal. Contains IF circuitry
- 84 ball TFBGA
- has 2 upconverters (BB to IF IQ modulator, IF to RF)
- contains on-chip VHF LO
- contains RF and IF Variable Gain Amplifiers, and part of circuitry for PA gain control
- contains op-amp as part of power detection circuit
- has serial interface for control by external digital controller
- 2.7v and 4.7v for analog functions, 1.8v for digital functions

Robin (N601) Signaling

-PCS_CTRL: 1=channels 25-599, 0=channels 600-1175. Output of Robin to Hornet
-PD_Cell & PD_PCS:. Robin output to Tomcat and Hornet, powers down those chips.
0=off, 1=on
- FALSE_DET: Used by UEM to monitor VR2 to ensure it is low when it should be (i.e.,
phone not transmitting when it's not supposed to be)
- TX_GATE: used to turn on various blocks. Used with puncturing, and to turn on power
down circuits. Input to Robin.
- VREFRF02: Robin input, voltage reference from UEM. Should be 1.35v
- FILSEL1 and FILSEL2: control lines which enable Robin to control the switch N605.
