2. Insert the TUM and push it completely home (fig. 1.7).
3. Tighten the two captive Torx screws on top of the front panel (fig. 1.8, detail A).
4. The SM 25B Booster Frame is connected to the TUM via a flexible 16-pole system cable.
This IDC flat-cable runs from the Booster Frame PCB along the top of the Booster Frame
(fig. 1.9 detail B).
Caution: Unused module positions in the Booster Frame must be covered with a blank-
ing panel to ensure that the forced air cooling functions correctly (fig. 1.10).
5. Replace the cardboard top cover and slide the Booster Frame back into the 19-inch rack
(or Table-top Housing) and tighten the four Torx screws (fig. 1.11).
Caution: The cardboard top cover must be replaced before sliding the Booster Frame
back into the rack to ensure that the forced air cooling functions correctly.
1.2
Connecting the TUM
Caution: When wiring inputs to the TUM in a 19-inch rack, ensure that the cables are of
sufficient length to allow the Booster Frame to be withdrawn on its runners (approx. 30 cm,
12 in.).
Connecting an aerial
The aerial (or antenna) is connected via the 75 ohm coaxial connector (item 5) on the rear
panel. Ensure a suitable FM aerial is used (tuning range 88 to 108 MHz). Refer to Fig. 1.12.
Connecting audio output
The audio output (mono) is available on two cinch connectors on the rear panel. This is con-
nected to the SM 25B system via a CSM. Refer to Fig. 1.12.
1.3
Configuring the TUM
TUM configuration switches
The following can be adjusted:
1. Volume control
2. Automatic frequency control (AFC) on/off
Volume level (item 1)
A level control is provided. This pre-sets the volume of the audio output of the tuner.
To set the volume level:
adjust the potentiometer R233 (item 1) on the printed circuit board.
Automatic frequency control (AFC) (item 3)
An automatic frequency control (AFC) is provided. When switched on, the AFC compensates
for small deviations in frequency. The AFC should be activated if the TUM has difficulty track-
ing the selected channel frequency.
1.4
Operating the TUM
Tuning a station
Set the rotary switch (item 4) to position 1.
Rotate the tuning control labelled '1' (item 3) until the desired station is heard.
Repeat for stations 2, 3 and 4.
