Mounting the Tuner Module (TUM)
Introduction
The Tuner Module (TUM) is for use in the SM 25B Booster Frames and Module Extension
Frames (MXF). It contains an FM tuner with four preset stations. It is used to provide back-
ground music in public address applications. The music output of the TUM is fed to a CSM
(LBB 2511/10) auxiliary input. A block diagram is shown in Fig. 1.1.
Note: A TUM operates in a Booster Frame (or MXF). Refer also to the Installation Instructions for
these modules.
Front panel (fig. 1.2):
1. Power indicator (green LED) (item 1)
2. Frequency meter (item 2)
3. Tuning controls (item 3)
4. Tuner preset selector/off control (item 4)
Rear panel (fig. 1.3):
5. Aerial connector (coaxial) (item 5)
6. Audio output connectors (2 x cinch) (item 6)
Indicators
A green LED indicates that power is present in the TUM. A frequency meter calibrated in
MHz is used for tuning. Refer to fig. 1.2.
Controls
Four preset FM channels can be tuned from rotary controls on the front panel. A five position
rotary switch is used to select the four pre-set stations, or turn the tuner off.
Configurable functionality
The TUM has a volume control potentiometer on the PCB.
The TUM has an automatic frequency control (AFC) on/off switch on the PCB.
Installing the TUM in a Booster Frame
WARNING: SWITCH THE EQUIPMENT OFF AND REMOVE THE MAINS PLUG
FROM THE MAINS OUTLET BEFORE OPENING THE EQUIPMENT.
Caution: The TUM is designed to operate safely in a SM 25B Booster Frame. Ensure
that the Booster Frame is installed in accordance with the Installation Instructions
supplied with the equipment before installing the TUM.

Special tools required:
T10 Torx screwdriver
T20 Torx screwdriver (for 19-inch rack mounting)
Installation procedure
1. If the TUM is to be mounted in a Booster Frame in a 19-inch rack:
- Switch off and unplug the Booster Frame from the mains (fig. 1.4).
- Loosen the four captive Torx screws 'A' (fig. 1.5).
- Slide the Booster Frame forward until it stops and lift out the cardboard top cover (fig. 1.6).
Note: All positions in the Booster Frame are functionally identical. The TUM may be mounted in any
available position.
