4. OPERATION
WARNING: For timing belt replacement always follow a recognised workshop manual; for further information always refer to the relevant
manufacturers recommendations.
4.1. This tool is designed to assist with the operation when replacing the timing belt on Subaru 2.0 and 2.5 litre engines DOHC including Turbo
engines, where hexagonal bolts are used to secure the camshaft Sprockets.
4.2. Once fitted, the tool locks the inlet and exhaust camshafts on the left hand bank and prevents them from turning; this is a great time saving
tool and makes changing the camshaft drive belt an easier operation.
4.3. Once all the timing marks have been aligned, the camshaft locking tool can be fitted.
4.4. With the locking bolts loosened slightly, fit the camshaft locking tool so the hexagon fits over the camshaft sprocket fixing bolts. The tool
should be parallel to the camshaft pulleys.(fig.1). Note: depending upon the camshaft pulley type the spacer provided may, or may not be
required.
4.5. Once correctly in position, tighten the locking tool securing bolts.
4.6. Ensure that the hexagon locking sections are held with a suitable spanner when tightening the locking bolts.
4.7.
Once this operation is completed tighten the securing bolts on the camshaft locking tool. The camshaft positions are now locked and will
not move when the camshaft drive belt is removed.
4.8.
Once the timing belt has been replaced and all timing marks are checked to ensure the timing is correct, the camshaft locking tool can be
removed.
