7 (34) 3. Safety instructions for using the attachment Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly powerful and improper or careless use or maintenance may cause serious personal injury or property damage.
  • Page 8 8 (34)  Risk of cutting and severing - Never leave the driver’s seat when the attachment is running or if the auxiliary hydraulics control lever is locked on. The blades move for a short period after the hydraulic supply has been shut off. Wait until the blades have stopped completely before going near the attachment.
  • Page 9 9 (34) Stuck blade can move and cut when removed blockage - Risk of cutting and severing. Never perform any cleaning, maintenance, service, or adjustment tasks if the loader engine DANGER is running or if the auxiliary hydraulics is locked on. Blade bar that has become stuck may move unexpectedly when removing a blockage because of residual pressure left in the hydraulic systems may cause cutting motion, creating...

  • Page 16: Connecting And Disconnecting Hydraulic Hoses

Follow safe stopping procedure before disconnecting hydraulics. The hydraulic connectors of the Cutting bar S30 fit to the outlets of the mechanical A431070 or hydraulic A424552 side arm. All three couplings must be connected to prevent damage to the hydraulic motor.
  • Page 17 17 (34) Disconnecting hydraulic hoses: Before disconnecting the fittings, lower the attachment to safe position on solid and level surface. Turn the control lever of the auxiliary hydraulics to its neutral position. When uncoupling the attachment, always disconnect the hydraulic couplings before unlocking the quick coupling, to prevent hose damage and any oil spills.

  • Page 20: Using The Cutting Bar

Starting the cutting bar: Refer to separate operator's manual of the Mechanical side arm S30 or the Hydraulic boom for more instructions about how to control the attachment. If you do not have the relevant manuals, do not use the cutting bar.
  • Page 21: Adjusting The Position Of The Cutting Bar

21 (34) Recommended operating speed and maximum allowed oil flow: Adjust engine RPM so that the loader's auxiliary hydraulic flow is within the specified range for the  cutting bar. Too little flow will not move the blades fast enough for good cutting results. Correct flow makes sure that the blades move fast enough for a good finish.

22 (34) 6.4 Working on uneven ground Extra caution is needed when using the equipment on inclined terrains and slopes. Drive slowly especially on inclined, uneven, or slippery surfaces, and avoid sudden changes in speed or direction. Operate the controls of the loader with careful and smooth movements.

  • Page 24: Storage With Side Arm

24 (34) 6.6.1 Storage with side arm short term storage attachment can be uncoupled from loader together with mechanical side arm. Place the assembly on blocks of wood or on a pallet, for example. Two or three pallets may be necessary to ensure the stability of the assembly during storage.
  • Page 25: Storage Of Uncoupled Cutting Bar

25 (34) 6.6.3 Storage of uncoupled cutting bar When storing the cutting bar for longer periods than temporary uncoupling from the loader, the cutting bar must be disconnected from the side arm and stored separately. Avoid leaving the attachment laying directly on the ground. Place it on blocks of wood or on a pallet, for example.
  • Page 26: Maintenance And Service

Finding any fault means that the hydraulic hose or component must be replaced and the equipment must not be used until it is repaired. Spare parts are available from your nearest AVANT retailer or authorised service point. Leave the repair work to professional service technicians, if you don’t have adequate knowledge and experience about hydraulic assemblies and how to perform the repairing safely.
  • Page 27: Cleaning The Attachment

27 (34) 7.2 Cleaning the attachment Clean the attachment regularly to prevent accumulation of dirt which is more difficult to remove. A pressure washer and mild detergent can be used for cleaning. Do not use strong solvents, and do not spray directly at the hydraulic components, or at the labels on the attachment.
  • Page 28: Blades

28 (34) 7.5 Blades There are a total of 56 blades on the cutting bar. Their teethed edges help to retain good cutting properties over a long period of time. Damaged blades can be replaced. Also blade guides should be checked and replaced as necessary.
  • Page 29 29 (34) Blade adjustment Blade must be adjusted, when:  a new blade is installed, or  the offset of the blades is larger than 1,5 mm in horizontal direction. Adjust the blade as follows: 1. Loosen the mounting screws (5) and the adjustment screw (6) of the blade holder (3).
  • Page 30 30 (34) When adjusting the blades, always make sure that the blade offset is equal over the whole length of the cutter bar. Also make sure that the blades move freely back and forth in the guides.
