    CHAPTER Preface This preface provides prerequisite safety, warning, and background information about replacing your orig- inal appliance chassis with a chassis replacement unit (CRU). Important: Review “Safety Warnings and Cautions” in the appliance’s Safety and Conformity Guide before servicing your appliance.     CHAPTER Component Transfer When replacing an appliance chassis with a CRU, the original chassis components—power supplies, net- work modules, and chassis rails—must be transferred to the CRU.     Transfer SV1800 Power Supplies SV1800 power supplies are hot swappable. However, if the appliance is powered by a single power supply, removing that power supply will cause the system to fail. Powering off the appliance in this manner could cause disk corruption. SV1800 power supplies are secured with retention latches. To transfer SV1800 power supplies from the original appliance to the CRU: 1 Power off the original appliance and unplug the power supply cables.

    Transfer SV2800/3800 Power Supplies SV2800 and SV3800 power supplies are hot swappable. However, if the appliance is powered by a single power supply, removing that power supply will cause the system to fail. Powering off the appliance in this manner could cause disk corruption. SV2800 and SV3800 power supplies are secured with a retainer bar and retention latches.

    SV2800 and SV3800 appliances do not include network modules; if your deployment requires them, they must be purchased separately from Symantec. Network modules are installed in the appliance’s front bays, which are numbered left to right and top to bottom.
  • Page 19 • While continuing to pull the ejector handle forward, remove the network module from the original appliance. 3 Insert the network module in the CRU: • If necessary, remove the blank panel covering the empty slot in the CRU. • Insert the network module in the empty slot until the protrusion on the right side of the module (the ejector latch) touches the chassis.

    Transfer SV1800, SV2800, and SV3800 Rack Rails The slide-rail mounting kit included with SV1800, SV2800, and SV3800 appliances allows them to be rack- mounted in a four-post equipment rack with a depth of 27.75” to 37.00” with square mounting holes. Caution: If you are installing the appliance in an enclosed equipment rack, make sure to provide sufficient airflow to prevent the appliance from overheating, which can cause damage.
  • Page 21 3 Attach the inner chassis rails to the CRU by aligning them with the chassis posts and sliding them toward the front of the appliance.  Note: The inner chassis rails are symmetrical and can be installed on either side of the appliance. 4 Install the CRU in the rack by aligning and inserting the inner chassis rails into the rack rails.
