08-0438 U-Joint Press
Caution: To prevent eye injury, wear safety glasses when using this tool.
Note: When servicing a U-Joint, it is necessary to press one yoke off the bearing
cross then repeat the same process to remove the second yoke from the cross. To simplify
these instructions, the steps will only show the removal/installation of one yoke. Repeat these
directions for the second side.
Typical U-Joint Components

Removal:

1: Remove axle or drive shaft from vehicle. Refer to the owners or shop manual for
this procedure.
2: Depending on the make and model you are
working on, the 4 retaining clips will be located
either on the inside of the U-Joint or the outside.
Remove clips as outlined in your service manual.
3: Select the correct size adaptor and drive tip for your application. The inside diam-
eter of the adaptor should be slightly larger than the outside diameter of the U-Joint
bearing cup. The outside diameter of the drive tip should be slightly smaller than the
outside diameter of the U-Joint bearing cup.
