USB A/V Grabber
Please read these operating instructions carefully prior
to the installation and keep them for later use.
1 Applications
The USB-20AV is an adapter which allows connection
of camcorders, cameras, or other audio and video
sources to a notebook or a PC with USB 2.0 interface.
Thus, audio and video signals can be reproduced on
the PC, video sequences and individual pictures can
be stored on the hard disk or e. g. video recordings can
be copied on a DVD. The supplied CDs include the
operating software, various drivers, and video process-
ing programmes.

2 Safety Notes
The unit corresponds to all required directives of the
EU and is therefore marked with
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and heat (admissible ambient temperature
range 0 – 40 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability for
any resulting personal damage or material damage
will be accepted if the unit is used for other purposes
than originally intended, if it is not correctly con-
nected, not repaired in an expert way, or if the soft-
ware is not correctly installed.
If the unit is to be put out of operation de-
finitively, take it to a local recycling plant for
a disposal which is not harmful to the envi-
ronment.
3 Software Installation and USB Connection
Do not connect the grabber to the computer prior
to installing the driver software!
1) Insert the supplied CD "Multimedia Installation Kit"
into the CD drive.
2) Call the installation programme for the drivers
"[CD drive]:\GrabBeeX+ deluxe\Driver\setup.exe".
Click "Next >" in the appearing dialog window and
click "Finish" in the next window appearing. Then
select the option "Yes, now restart computer." and
confirm with "OK".
3) If a dialog window appears after the restart which
confirms the installation of the software for the unit
"USB EMP Audio Device", click "Finish" and make
another restart of the computer in the subsequent
dialog window. After successful installation the

units "USB 2.0 A/V converter" and "USB EMP
Audio Device" are now listed in the operating
system under "Settings/control panel/system/
hardware/device manager".
4) Connect the USB plug (1) of the grabber to an
unconnected USB jack of the computer. The oper-
ating system now recognizes the new unit.
5) Call the installation programme for the operating
software "[CD drive]:\GrabBeeX+ deluxe\AP soft-
ware\setup.exe". Click "Next >" in the appearing
dialog window "Welcome...GrabBee".
6) An installation path is suggested in the window
"Choose Destination Location". Click "Next >" to
confirm. For installing the programme in another
path, click "Browse...", select the target path, and
confirm with "OK", then click "Next >".
7) Confirm the request for the installation of the Win-
dows Media Format 9 files with "Yes" and accept
the subsequently appearing conditions of use with
"Yes". Then finish the installation of these files with
"OK".
8) Accept the conditions of use for the "Windows
Media Tools" to be installed now with "Yes". Start
the installation with "Next >" and continue with
"Next >" in the next window after selecting the op-
tion "Complete Installation".

9) An installation path is suggested in the window
"Installation Directory". Click "Finish" to confirm.
For installing the "Windows Media Tools" in an-
other path, click "Browse...", select the target path,
and confirm with "OK", then click "Finish".
10) Confirm the creation of a new folder with "Yes" and
finish the installation in the following two dialog win-
dows with "OK" or "Finish".
There are three new icons on the Windows desktop
now. The operating programme is started via the icon
"GrabBee". The icons "Record Files" and "Snapshot"
are links with the directories in which the video
sequences or individual pictures are stored.
4 Connection of the Audio and Video Source
If the video unit to be connected is equipped with an
S-Video output, connect this output to the 4-pole inline
jack (2), otherwise the video output to the yellow phono
inline jack (3). Connect the audio output to the stereo
phono inline jack (4). Connect the left channel to the
white inline jack, the right channel to the red inline jack.
5 Basic setting of the operating programme
1) Start the programme "GrabBee" by a double-click
on the icon on the Windows desktop or via the Win-
dows start menu.
2) The selected video input, "S-Video" (mini DIN in-
line jack) or "Composite" (phono inline jack) is
shown in the centre of the represented operating
surface of the programme. Click the icon "Video
Input"

under "Video Format". Close the window with "OK".
4) The picture size shown can be selected after a
click of the right mouse button within "Video Win-
dow". The option "Always On Top" prevents that
the video display is covered by any other windows.

the "VIDEO HOME" instructions.
6 Deinstalling the Programme
For removing the operating software "GrabBee" from
the PC, make the following steps:
1) Start the deinstallation programme "VideoHome
GrabBee/Uninstall" via the Windows start menu.
2) Start the deinstallation by clicking "Yes" in the win-
dow appearing now.
3) Then all programme files and the links in the
system menu and on the Windows desktop are
removed.
Pictures and video sequences stored by the user are
kept when deinstalling. The drivers and additional pro-
grammes are maintained as well so that the grabber
can still be used e. g. by other video processing pro-
grammes.
