  • Page 2 SMARTSTART User Guide IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE SMARTSTART is enabled with a very high volume buzzer for event starts. Prior to using SMARTSTART with you athletes, please familiarize yourself with the unit volume and be careful to place it at an appropriate distance from your athletes, as you would do with any type of athletics start gun or horn.
  • Page 3 9. Press OK and then proceed to run your session as usual. HARDWARE INPUT OPTIONS SMARTSTART is equipped with two PS2 ports for various functions. Currently, only one port is active, and is clearly labeled “INPUT”. The second port is currently unused but was included in the design for future possibilities.
  • Page 4 SCENARIO 1: WIRELESS START GUN (ONE SMARTSTART FOR UP TO 8 LANES; PDA OR HAND PLUNGER START)) In this scenario, SMARTSTART can be used at the start line as a high volume wireless start gun for 1-8 lanes of timing, started by the SMARTSTART audio signal.
  • Page 5 With your SMARTSPEED drill running in RFID mode, after pressing GO on the PDA, the first light unit in each lane will begin to flash a green rotating light. This indicates that the SMARTSTART units are ready to receive an RFID wrist band.

  • Page 8 SCENARIO 5: REACTION TIME DETECTION/RFID READER (TRAFFIC LIGHT START) In this scenario, SMARTSTART can be used as a wireless RFID reader, with the added ability to detect a reaction time, in either single or multiple lane modes, by connecting a SMARTSHOXX unit to the PS2 input port on the SMARTSTART unit.
