HDTV UpConverter
Addendum & User Notes
Since the user manual was written we have added several features and expanded
some capabilities that were not announced in the original product specifications.

Special Note:

Turn off the Progressive Scan setting on your DVD player. When the
UpConverter detects an input as progressive, then most of the video processing is
automatically turned off. The HDTV UpConverter uses sophisticated Motion Adaptive
De-Interlacing, Noise reduction and sharpening filters, to take advantage of this video
processing you need to provide a standard 480i input. When you supply a progressive
input (480p) you rely only on the quality of noise reduction and de-interlacing that your
DVD player provides and you defeat most of the capabilities of the UpConverter.

Video Source Customization Enhancements

Set and Save color/brightness settings by input – You can now change the
brightness, contrast, saturation, etc. settings by input. Select the input and use the on
screen menu to change the settings. Move to the next input and set color and
brightness for that input. All settings are automatically saved.
not sticky (is not saved). Every time you move from one input to another the system
analyzes the video source and attempts to automatically optimize the sharpness setting.
You can over ride this, but the setting will not be saved.
Naming Video Inputs – You can name your video input sources. From the on-screen
Video Input menu you can select the input source and choose from a list of names;
None, Cable Box, Camcorder, DVD, Game, Laserdisc, Satellite, VCR or Video.
name will be displayed along with the source number, for example input 1 might be
DVD, it will be displayed as DVD1, Input 3 might be Satellite and will be displayed as
Satellite3.
Video Input Auto-Detect – The UpConverter can detect which inputs you have video
signals connected. You can scan through the video inputs and then when you use the
Input button on the remote you will skip to only those inputs that are active or have a
video source plugged in.
Have video playing on all of your connected devices when choosing Video input auto-
detect.
1.) Select Video Input Menu
2.) Select Auto-detect and choose SCAN
3.) Close on-screen menu by pressing Menu button twice
4.) Press the INPUT button on the remote to begin scanning video inputs

  • Page 2 Video Input Menu – Black Level and Picture Level controls We have added Red, Blue and Green settings for both Black Level and Picture (contrast) for the Component video inputs. This sets the levels of the incoming component video signal before any video processing occurs. This will give you greater control of color and image quality from the component input source.
  • Page 3 Down Conversion – We have published the features of this product as an HDTV UpConverter but in fact the device can function as a Down Converter as well as an UpConverter. This means that if you are receiving a 1080i HD signal from your HDTV tuner or receiver, you can down convert to 720p or to a native resolution (see above) that matches the fixed pixel resolution of your display device.
