Who is stronger?
YOU WILL NEED
→ all the magnets
→ compass
→ polystyrene disk
→ ruler
HERE'S HOW
1. Set the compass on the polystyrene disk.
Place a bar magnet a few centimeters away,
with its north pole pointing to the left side of
the compass.
2. Now use the horseshoe magnet to check
which side of the block magnet is the north
pole.
3. Hold the bar magnet tight, and approach the
compass with the block magnet from the top
until the compass needle points in the middle
between the two. It takes a little skill to get
the two magnets in just the right position.
4. Exchange the block magnet for each of the
other magnets in turn.
How close does each of the other magnets
have to be for the needle to be in the middle?
