GENERAL

1.1 Document Purpose
This document describes the Westellr DTWA528-28 Series of
28-Position Digital Terminating Wall Assemblies, one of which
is shown in Figure 1. See Table 1 for information concerning
other models in the same product family.

Hereafter, the Westell DTWA528-28 28-Position Digital
Terminating Wall Assemblies will be referred to as the
DTWA528-28" or the assembly." Specific model numbers will
be used where differences apply.
1.2 Document Status
Whenever this practice is updated, the reason will be stated in
this paragraph. This practice replaces document 030-101619
for the products listed in Table 1.
1.3 Product Purpose and Description
The DTWA528-28 is a 28-position mounting that holds up to
28 200 MECHANICSr Network Interface Units and provides
a dedicated slot for an optional modular power supply on each
shelf. Facility side connections are made to separate Transmit
(XMT) and Receive (RCV) 32-pair connectors or to wirewrap
pins on the printed circuit board (PCB) backplane. Customer
connections are made to a Customer Interface Module (CIM)
which provides RJ48C modular jacks and two, separate, transmit
and receive RJ48H cable connectors. The CIM on the List 5 op-
tion adds switches for selecting either RJ48C, RJ48S, or RJ48H
jacks, to satisfy various needs for either TS1 Digital Services, Digi-
tal Data Services or Leased Line Analog Services. The RJ48H
connectors are 64-pin male connectors. The List 14 option ties
pins 2 and 11 to pin 27 (Chassis Ground). The List 7 option adds
two Y" cables (a 32-pair female connector at one end and two
25-pair male connectors at the other end). The List 4 model
provides a keyed lock (requires a key to open).

1.4 Product Mounting
The DTWA528-28 is typically mounted on an approved wall at
the customer location. This assembly is well-suited for confined
corner wall-mounting due to the reversible cover (and door) and
unique CIM module, which plugs into either the left or right side
of the DTWA528-28, for easy and flexible CPE access.
1.5 Product Features
The DTWA528-28 offers the following features.

Compact and light-weight holds up to 28 200 MECHAN-
ICSr DS1, HDSL, DDS or Analog Data/Voice-type
circuits
S
Pre-wired backplane and connectorized to minimize wir-
ing errors and installation time
S
Facility connections are made to separate XMT and RCV
32-pair connectors or wirewrap pins
S
CPE connections made at a unique, optional, removable,
CIM module, which contains two, 32-pair, male, RJ48H
connectors (one for XMT, one for RCV), and 28 switch-
able RJ48C modular jacks (switchable RJ48C/S/H jacks
on the List 5 model)
S
Well-suited for confined corner wall-mounting due to the
removable CIM module, which plugs into either the left or
right side of the DTWA528-28, for easy CPE access
S
Removable and reversible metal cover, complete with see-
through, hinged, front door (key locking cover available)
