    I. General A. Introduction The 3M Brand/MS Cross-Connect is designed to provide random cross-connecting between Feeder and Distribution PIC cables of diameter .7 mm - .32 mm (22-28 AWG). Frames within the cabinets hold banks of terminated 25-Pair Feeder and Distribution Modules.

Cross-Connect Pedestal Cabinets Component Assembly 4065 (300-Pair) Pedestal Cabinet The 4065 cabinet consists of hinged front doors equipped with one lock, a removable hinged panel and backboard assembly, bond bar, module mounting frame and base, spool for Jumper Wire and Adjustable Wire Run Guide. Figure 1 is an exploded view of the 4065 cabinet.

MS 4065 (300-Pair) Pole-Mount Cabinet with 4098 Conversion Kit The 4098 Conversion Kit adapts the 4065 pedestal cabinet to pole-mount applications. In addition to 4065 components, the 4098 Conversion Kit consists of top and bottom pole- mount brackets, plastic cable adapters, bottom plate, and necessary hardware.

    C. Poured Slab Mount Installation of 4084 and 4086 Cabinets NOTE: The MS 4056 Mounting Ring Kit is needed for this installation. See Figure 19. Figure 19. 1. Ground Preparation a.     4056L Support Legs (Refer to Figure 19) 4056L Support Legs are available for surface mounting all 3M Brand Pedestal Cabinets in poured slab applications. Support Legs may be mounted to slab prior to Cabinet Installation and will provide firm support for 4065 ,4080, 4082, 4084 or 4086 Pedestals.

Insert four slab mount bolts (not included) trough the Angle Irons and thread loosely into slab sections. Drive Anchor Stakes so Angle Irons are flat on the slab. Tighten all mount bolts securely.

    III. P edestal Cabinet Cable Routing A. MS 4065 (300-Pair) Cabinet Pairs to be terminated must run through the grommeted holes in Hinged Panel. Form a .6 m (2 ft.) gooseneck behind Panel to allow for slack. See Figure 37. The loop through cable (express pairs) should be taped or wrapped and secured to rear of cabinet.

    B. MS 4094 (1200-Pair) and 4095 (1800-Pair) Pole Mount Installation: Mount cabinet in desired position on pole using hardware included. Follow standard procedure. See Figure 43. Cable Installation: a. Cables should enter cabinet through ports directly in line with appropriate module frame. If only a single cable is to be terminated, place cable in center port to provide the best protection for the cable.

    Crimping: a. Put crimping clamp on Splicing Head; hose can be either to left or right. Pins on inside edge nest in pin pockets on Splicing Head when clamp is placed at an angle on head. See Figure 59. b. Rotate clamp until detents lock clamp in upright position.

    4061 Cable Separators are used between modules and where frames are “open” to close off Feeder or Distribution binder groups in the 3M MS Cross-Connect Frames. 2. The Cable Separators are supplied in sheets of four. To remove a single Separator from the sheet, snip along the notched section as shown in Figure 63.

    VI. Jumpering Jumper wires must be plastic-insulated .5 mm (24 AWG) g with a maximum O.D. of 1.1 mm (.042 inches) to insure reliable connections with multiple insertions. See Figure 75.     C. Half-Tap Jumpering The MS 4055 HT Half-Tap Jumpering Tool is used to make cuts or cable transfers within a cross-connect box. The 4055 HT Tool (orange to distinguish it from the 4055 Impact Insertion Tool) allows a jumper wire to be punched into the contact of a Cross-Connect Module (MS 401 OE 4011 E) but does not cut off the end of the wire as is done...

    D. MS 25-Pair Probes 4048 25-Pair Probe a. The MS 4048 25-Pair Pocket Probe is designed to make an electrical contact to each wire in all types of 25-Pair MS Modules. The 4048 Probe should be inserted into test entry ports ONLY. These are the holes at mid-level of Module.

    E. Pair Test Plug 4047 Pair Test Plug makes electrical connection from terminal block to module contacts. Insert pins of plug into test ports in mid-level of Module. See Figure 93.
