    Tiger Software Suite: Powerful addition to Windows adds braille and tactile graphic functionality to MS Office. ViewPlus embossers use the standard Windows printer driver to mix text and graphics in mainstream Windows software like Word and Excel. Use the computer to adjust settings and preferences. Print documents exactly how they appear on the screen.

    10,000 pages B. System Compatibility The Windows driver for EmBraille is compatible with operating systems from Windows 7 to current Windows versions, both 32- and 64-bit systems. A Mac OS 10.9 printer driver is also available for the ViewPlus EmBraille embosser.

    III. Printer Setup A. Unpacking o Place your packaged embosser on a solid base. o Make sure the box is placed with the correct side up. o Open the box, lift the embosser out of the cardboard box and remove the remaining packaging material and tapes.

    The packing material must also be used to ship the ViewPlus embosser for warranty maintenance service, or repair. If not existent anymore, new packaging material has to be purchased before return of the embosser is authorized.

    Do not connect your VP EmBraille to the computer during installation of the Windows printer driver, or turn it off during this process. Run the driver setup from the USB, or download current EmBraille driver from ViewPlus website, www.viewplus.com.

    B. Printer Properties B.1 Device settings tab The device settings are properties that are stored within the internal memory of the printer. Therefore the printer needs to be locally connected through USB and turned on. To activate any changes, always click 'Apply' button when done with settings.
  • Page 16 This shows due to standard dialog from Windows, but for ViewPlus EmBraille, this form to tray assignment is not being applied in any way. Please just ignore this first section of device settings list.
  • Page 17 Media Type – Media Type setting defines embosser punch force being applied to form tactile dots into the paper (print media). The stronger the media, the higher the punch force needs to be to form readable dots. A list of presets for certain media types is available, but a 'Custom' setting is also possible if the presets will not yield satisfactory embossing results.
  • Page 18 Custom Braille Table… – The ViewPlus EmBraille has some Braille tables stored on-board, plus a custom Braille table can be stored to the machine additionally. Click 'Properties' to open a dialog as shown in the picture below.

    B.2 Service tab The Service tab of the printer properties dialog window provides information about the connected ViewPlus EmBraille embosser at the bottom left. When contacting ViewPlus Support, please have the driver version, printer serial number, and firmware version available.
  • Page 21  Interface Settings This field is greyed out as the newer version of ViewPlus EmBraille embosser does not provide a serial connection port interface anymore.  Print Test Page Prints a test page to exercise the EmBraille's embossing mechanism.

    Another option to access printing preferences is to choose 'Printing Preferences...' from Window system control panel for 'Devices and Printers' from context menu of the ViewPlus EmBraille printer. In addition, printing preferences are accessible next to printer selection from standard Windows print dialog when printing from most programs.

    C.1 Layout tab The Layout tab contains options pertaining to the page layout of the document to be printed.  Output Single Sided – You see only one option here, because EmBraille embosses single sided only.  Print Collate – When the collate box is checked and multiple copies of a document are printed, one complete document will be embossed at a time.

  • Page 26 The print will show a small section each for force values starting with 1 at the top, increasing as paper advances. You have two columns showing results of both hammering solenoids from the machines print head. Choose values for highest, and lowest dot height which would work for your media as seen from this test print.

    C.3 Tiger tab The Tiger tab contains controls for Braille and tactile graphics print output as follows. Shows Tiger Tab  How to Print Graphics Quality – Select 'Draft', 'Standard' or 'Best'. Printing with draft graphics quality will place dots in a square grid versus best quality will place dots with 100 dpi resolution as close to each other as possible.
  • Page 28 Emboss Standard Text – When this is checked, standard text that is not translated to Braille will be embossed as image of the characters. This is helpful in combination with large font size to create raised letters that can be recognized on touch. When doing so, it is recommended to change the font color to grey instead of black since the paper might be getting torn embossing solid black.

     Reverse/Down – Only in online mode, pressing this button will move paper one Braille line at a time forward. When holding down this button in online mode, the embosser will continuously move the paper forward.  Load/Eject – When paper is loaded, pressing this button will eject the paper from the paper path. In single sheet mode this means moving forward until the sheet is ejected.

    A. Single Sheet and Tractor feed handling The ViewPlus EmBraille provides two methods of paper feeding. Either one single sheet of paper can be inserted into the sheet feeder tray, which is also called friction feed, or continuous paper with tractor strips can be inserted into the tractor feeder towards the back of the machine.

It should lock itself into its mounting. Align the left paper guide with the mark on the left of the single sheet feeder tray.
  • Page 33 Tractor feed handling Tractor Door Shows VP EmBraille tractor feed mechanism  Move the Paper Select Lever on the right of the printer all the way toward the back of the embosser for tractor paper feeding.  Raise the tractor doors and fit the first 3 paper holes onto the left tractor pins. Close the left tractor door.

    B. Continuous Paper Placement The ViewPlus EmBraille provides a tractor paper feeder in the back of the machine. Please follow the instruction below to ensure proper paper input and output. Shows the continuous paper placement cycle  Place the embosser on a solid base. The embosser should be at least 75cm above the paper supply.

    Braille font as further described under B. below. A. ViewPlus Tiger Software Suite Within MS Office Word, and Excel the ViewPlus Tiger Software Suite (TSS) provides direct tools for text to Braille translation in numerous languages and contraction grades. TSS includes easy translation of charts and graphs in MS Excel and provides further tools to easily create and edit tactile graphics originating from other Windows applications.

    B. Fonts Braille and Tiger screen fonts are Braille fonts that install with the installation of the ViewPlus embosser driver. They can be chosen from any Windows program that includes Windows font selection. But text has to be handled like true text, and not show as embedded image, which is the case in some PDF Editor programs, for example.

    When the printer is finished, it will eject the paper. In general, ViewPlus printers follow the principle "What you see is what you get". The screen image is converted to tactile resolution and colors are converted to different dot heights on embossed output, where darker colors are represented in higher dots (black = highest dot), and lighter colors are represented in lower dots (white = no dot).
