VMEbus Interrupter Operation

Interrupts on the VMEbus are generated by interrupters and serviced by interrupt han-
dlers. The Model 4283 can act both as an interrupter and an interrupt handler. This sec-
tion covers the interrupter operation.
The Model 4283 can interrupt the VMEbus on any of seven interrupt levels, 1 through 7.
There are several operations involved in the interrupt requester operation:
1)
The interrupt driver must be connected to one of 7 bus lines IRQ1 through IRQ7.
This is accomplished by setting the IRQ jumpers shown in
2)
The interrupt acknowledge address must be set to allow the IACK Vector to be
interrogated by the VMEbus interrupt handler. This is accomplished by setting
IACK Vector Address jumpers as shown in
3)
The IACK Vector register must be loaded by the VMEbus Bus Master (typically
the same device as the interrupt handler). This is performed by writing to this
register in A16 address space as described in
4)
The interrupt is generated by setting the VMEINT flip-flop which is performed
when the VMEINT bit in the 'C30 Control Register is set to a logic '1'. This is de-
scribed in
5)
The VMEINT flip-flop (and hence the IRQ line on the bus) must be cleared at the
end of the interrupt acknowledge cycle. This is performed by re-writing a vector
to the IACK Vector Register. This can be the same value each time. The write
strobe to this register is connected to the reset pin on the VMEINT flip-flop.
On the next page, the charts and drawings presented in the earlier sections of this manual
that are referenced above are reprinted.
