SECTION 8: TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
Trouble
ENGINE WILL
• On/Off control in the STOP position
NOT START
• Empty fuel tank
• Primer bulb wasn't pressed enough
• Engine is flooded
• Old or improperly mixed fuel
• Fouled spark plug
• Plugged spark arrestor
ENGINE WILL
• Air filter is plugged
NOT IDLE
• Old or improperly mixed fuel
• Improper carburetor adjustment
• Throttle cable not seated in
carburetor plate guide
ENGINE WILL
• Old or improperly mixed fuel
NOT
• Improper carburetor adjustment
ACCELERATE
• Cutting attachment bound with grass
• Dirty air filter
• Plugged spark arrestor
ENGINE LACKS
• Old or improperly mixed fuel
POWER OR
• Improper carburetor adjustment
STALLS WHEN
• Fouled spark plug
CULTIVATING
• Plugged spark arrestor

Possible Cause(s)
Corrective Action
• Turn On/Off control to ON
• Fill fuel tank with properly-mixed fuel
• Press primer bulb fully and slowly 10 times
• Use starting procedure with choke lever in the RUN
position
• Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel mixture
• Replace or clean spark plug
• Clean or replace the spark arrestor
• Replace or clean the air filter
• Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel mixture
• Adjust according to the Carburetor Adjustment
section
• Install according to the Throttle Cable Assembly
section
• Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel mixture
• Take to an authorized service dealer for adjustment
• Stop the engine and clean the cutting attachment
• Clean or replace the air filter
• Clean or replace spark arrestor
• Drain gas tank and add fresh fuel mixture
• Take to an authorized service dealer for adjustment
• Replace or clean spark plug
• Clean or replace the spark arrestor
