(1) Compu-Fire Starter
(2) 1/4-20 X 3/4" Socket Head Cap Screw
(2) 10-24 X 3/4" Socket Head Cap Screw
READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE BEGINNING
INSTALLATION!
NOTE: Refer to the Factory Shop Manual electrical section for safety instructions prior to
preforming any repairs or installations of electrical components.
CAUTION! ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES BEFORE PERFORMING ANY
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REPAIRS OR MODIFICATIONS.THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO
THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR ACCIDENTAL STARTING OF THE MOTORCYCLE IN CASE
OF AN ELECTRICAL ARC CAUSED BY SHORTING THE BATTERY POWER TO GROUND.
WARNING! SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR PERSONAL INJURY
MAY OCCUR BY NOT FOLLOWING THE ABOVE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
Step #1 STARTER REMOVAL:

Disconnect the Battery Cables from the battery, always disconnect the negative
cable first.
Remove the Nut that connects the battery cable to the starter and remove the

3. Loosen the two long bolts that mount the starter to the starter gearbox housing and
then remove the starter from the motorcycle.

  • Page 2: Step #2 Starter Installation

    024-53730 4. Clean the starter gearbox Housing where the starter mounts. Step #2 STARTER INSTALLATION: 5. Loosen the two long mounting bolts on the New Compu-Fire starter and carefully remove the front housing from the starter – CAUTION: Be careful to NOT remove the armature and housing from the rear brush housing of the starter.
  • Page 3 024-53730 6. Install the Compu-Fire front housing to the starter gearbox on the primary. There are four sets of holes and two sets of screws. Orientate the holes that will allow the starter to be installed with the battery post in the same location as the original starter. Use the supplied screws that match the thread in the starter gearbox on your bike.
  • Page 4 024-53730 7. Install the starter. Carefully slide the starter into position keeping the armature and housing together with the brush housing. Start the two long bolts and tighten evenly alternating back and forth - torque to 49 in. lbs. DO NOT USE AIR TOOLS ON THESE SCREWS! 8.
