ASSEMBLY / OPERATOR'S MANUAL EL 100 N - POWER TILLER N° 95458 A.GB - 12.1999...
Page 2
DEAR OWNER, In buying a KUHN machine you have chosen wisely. Into it have gone years of thought, research and improvements. You will find, as have thousands of owners all over the world, that you have the best that engineering skill and actual field testing can produce. You have purchased a dependable machine, but only by proper care and operation can you expect to receive the performance and long service built into it.
These recommendations must be made known to all machine operators. DESIGNATED USE OF THE MACHINE The EL 100 N must only be used for the work for which it has been designed : - Seedbed preparation on ploughed or unploughed ground with or without simultaneous seeding (machine can be equipped with an integrated or a 3-point mounted seeder).
Page 5
GENERAL SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS Before operating the machine, always ensure that tractor and machine are in accordance with work safety and road traffic regulations. BASIC PRINCIPLES 1. In addition to the recommendations given in this manual, legislation on work safety and accident prevention must also be respected.
Page 6
16. Before transporting on public roads, locate the machine into its transport position as instructed in this operators manual. 17. Never leave the tractor seat while the machine is operating. 18. Drive speed must be adapted to ground conditions as well as roads and paths. Always avoid abrupt changes of direction.
Page 7
POWER TAKE-OFF 1. Only use PTO shaft supplied with the machine or recommended by the manufacturer. 2. PTO guards must always be in place and in good condition. 3. Check for correct PTO overlap when at work and in transport. 4.
Page 8
8. Spare parts used must be in accordance with specifications and standards as defined by the manufacturer. Use only genuine KUHN parts ! 9. Before any electric welding is carried out on tractor or attached machine, disconnect generator and battery terminals.
SAFETY DECALS THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PICTORIALS HAVE BEEN PLACED ON YOUR MACHINE IN THE AREAS INDICATED. THEY ARE INTENDED FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY AND FOR THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE WORKING WITH YOU. THE TEXT SHOWN ON THEM GIVES THEIR PRECISE MEANING.
SAFETY GUARDS The safety guards protect against accidents and therefore ensure maximum machine safety. EL 100 N for Great Britain are equipped with special guards (see page 23). Fit the guard extension (1) over the sheet metal guard (2) of the torque limiter (see photo opposite).
The EL 100 N Power Tiller exists in three versions : - EL 100 N with standard rotor equipped with curved blades. - EL 100 N with cultiplow rotor which is ideal for preparing seed beds. - EL 100 N with cultitiller rotor equipped with straight blades.
FITTING TO THE TRACTOR The EL 100N Power Tiller can be fitted to all tractors with a standard 3-point frame and Cat. I or II lower link pins. For tractors with Cat. II linkage, the lower link arms are fitted to the interior of the attachment bracket (fig.
Page 14
After mounting the power tiller, stabilize the tractor 3-point linkage with whatever means are recommended i.e. the bars, chains etc. Couple the PTO shaft to the tractor (with the gear lever in neutral position). Adjust the top link (I) length to a position where the tiller input shaft (J) is parallel to the ground.
ROTOR SPEED (ROTATIONAL FREQUENCY) The EL 100 N Power Tiller can be operated with a tractor PTO speed (rotational frequency) of 540 or 1000 rpm (min ) . With the gear lever, eight different rotor speeds and a neutral position can be selected (see table page 14).
POSITION OF GEARS SPEED (ROTATIONAL FREQUENCY) 1000 rpm (min 187* 225* 540 rpm (min 189* 228* Optional (21/24 teeth) (Set No. 120 7710) Standard gear set * Recommended speeds (rotational frequencies) Works setting The gearbox is fitted with a rear PTO shaft which turns at the same speed (rotational frequency) as the tractor drive...

2. CULTIPLOW ROTOR 100N equipped with cultiplow rotor, blades (L) must be fitted alternatively to the left and right-hand side of the flanges. - All bolts go on the blade side and the nuts and lock washers on the flange side. 3.

Brushwood clearance Turning in stubble Market gardening Forest maintenance The EL 100 N fitted with cultiplow rotor or with cultitiller rotor is designed for following types of work : - Soil cultivation in ploughed land. - Market gardening. - Reclamation of grassland.
Page 20
EQUIPMENTS I. ROLLER The EL 100 N can be equipped with 2 types of rollers : - Crumbler roller made up of fixed tubes and removable bars. - Packer roller, made up of a cylinder fitted with several rows of studs.

Page 22
Crumbler roller scraper If so desired, the EL 100N Power Tiller equipped with a crumbler roller can be fitted with a roller scraper (D) with cleaning plates (P) which rest against the outer and intermediate roller support rings. The scraper increases the efficiency of the roller when working in wet condi- tions, minimising clogging.
Page 23
Chassis (3) of rear linkage is fitted on the 3-point frame of the EL 100 N using parts (10 - 11 - 12 - 13 - 14) and axis (2).
Page 24
The gearbox is fitted with a rear PTO shaft which turns at the same speed (rotational frequency) as the tractor drive shaft. This rear drive shaft should not be used to drive a secondary machine while the gearbox is in its neutral position (due to the risk of gearbox damage resulting from inefficient oil circulation).
Page 25
Combination with a machine with PTO drive (for example a pneumatic seed drill) With the combination of the EL 100 N with a PTO powered machine, it is necessary to fit the pivoting frame (P) in the upper position (see figure overleaf).
Page 26
Maintenance of the linkage Periodically grease the different pivot points equipped with grease nipples (ten grease nipples). When parking the combined unit (EL 100 N seed drill, for example) make sure that the additional implement is lowered first. IV 3-POINT SEMI-AUTOMATIC FRONT LINKAGE (no 1207110 for cat.

V. SKIDS AND STAND (1206 910) The EL 100 N is fitted as standard with two depth control wheels. Upon request, these wheels can be replaced by two skids, one on each side of the machine. Depth control is adjusted by means of 6 hole skid bar. When skids are provided as a later alternative, assemble them following the diagram below where all parts are shown in their respective positions.
Page 28
Note : To ensure maximum stability, it is recommended to also fit reinforcing arms (M) with the wheel track eradicators (photo 5). VII. REINFORCING KIT (No. 120 8010) This equipment reinforces the fixation of support bar (T) (photos 5 and 7). It is recommended to fit in addition to the levelling bar (photo 7) and/or the wheel track eradicators (photo 5).
Page 29
XI. SIDE SEPARATING DISCS (No.120 82 20) These discs improve soil movement towards the rotor and thus achieve a better definition between ploughed and tilled land. The side separating discs (D) fit to the cross bars (T) as shown in photo 8.
