Contact Customer Support: at 1-800-362-8774 or support@hydropoint.com Introduction The FlowHD is an ultrasonic flow sensing device that accurately reads flow and precisely delivers the flow data you need to reduce water waste and increase efficiency.
Installation Best Practices Choose a Location Downstream and Past the Master Valve Before installing the FlowHD, it is important to select the proper location on the mainline. The location must be past the master valve and backflow. Do not Install onto Elevated Pipes It is important that the FlowHD not be installed onto an elevated pipe.

Go Downstream When installing the FlowHD, you will need to provide a straight pipe run of at least 10 times the pipe’s diameter upstream of the meter, and at least 5 times the pipe’s diameter downstream of the meter. The arrow embossed on the insert body denotes the flow direction.
Install the Device at an Angle The FlowHD must be installed at an angle. Installing the FlowHD at an angle prevents too much air from being trapped inside the device. When too much air gets trapped inside, false readings can occur.

Part 1: Preparing the Installation Area 1. Turn off the water to the pipe area where the FlowHD will be installed. 2. Flush water out of the mainline. CAUTION! Before proceeding, It is important to flush water out of the mainline. Failure to do so may result in water flooding into the hole being trenched for the install or debris from the mainline covering up the ultrasonic sensor.

Part 2: Connecting the FlowHD to PVC or Mainline 1. Remove all burrs from the pipe tee sockets edges. Clean edges. 2. Apply primer and cement to the pipe ends and t-sockets and quickly assemble the parts while the cement is fluid. Follow the cement manufacturer’s instructions for drying time and additional instructions.

3. Install the meter with the arrow on the insert pointing in the flow direction. Note: If the meter is accidentally installed backwards, simply remove the insert, rotate 180 degrees so the arrow points in the flow direction, and reinstall the insert.

Part 3: Wiring Connections The FlowHD must be connected with 3M™ DBR/Y-6 wire splicers. Follow manufacturer’s instructions when using the 3M™ DBR/Y-6 Wire Splicers. Best practices include: Stripping insulation 3/4” from the connecting end Ensuring the connector is inserted all the way into the tube until the connector rests on the bottom ...
Part 4: Validating and Configuring Flow Validate Flow on the Mainline 1. Turn water back on and run water through the FlowHD and surrounding pipe. 2. Check to see that the connections are watertight. Ensure the seals on the piping are working correctly and that no water is leaking.

Configuring flow: older firmware versions 7.10.4/8.6.4 or below For controllers with firmware version 7.10.4 or 8.6.4 (OptiFlow) or below, the FlowHD will need to be configured for the controller using the CUSTOM setting. To configure the FlowHD, follow the steps outlined below.
Troubleshooting The LED’s are the primary indicators of meter performance. There are two LED’s on the Flow HD. The Green LED is used to indicate basic power and functionality of the meter. The Amber LED is used to indicate that there is a flow of water through the FlowHD meter insert. The LED’s will behave in the following manner to indicate different modes of operation: Mode LED Behavior...

Retrofitting a FlowHD into an Existing Flow Meter Before proceeding, you will need to check the existing flow meter size to ensure you have the correct retrofit FlowHD device. Checking Meter Size If your flow controller requires a meter K-factor, use the K-factor for your size meter (see SPECIFICATIONS section).
Retrofit Instructions: Make sure area is clean before removing the insert to ensure no dirt falls into the insert hole. 1. Pull out the quick release pin from the meter. 2. Remove the old insert. Grasp the insert flange with your hands and pull straight up and out of the tee, making sure no dirt or other particles fall into the insert bore of the meter.

4. Orient the insert over the insert bore so that the arrow on the insert is pointing in the direction of flow. 5. Insert straight down into the tee, and push down on the insert flange. 6. Twist slightly to install and to align the retaining pin holes in the insert with the holes in the tee. 7.
