ENGLISH
The 5631 Book Copying Easel 45/30 can hold books up to
60 x 45 cm (23.6 x 17.7 in.) in opened size and up to 15 cm
(5.9 in.) in thickness in copying position. Single pages of a
60 x 90 cm (23.6 x 35.4 in.) sized open book can also be
positioned under the glass cover using the swing out hol-
ding frame (11).
1. Setting up
The Book Copying Easel should be positioned on a plane
solid base, e. g. the 5630 Base Stand or the 5712 Copying
Table (see 6. Accessories). The feet (12) can be adjusted
in height to compensate an uneven base. Please ensure a
secure position.
2. Operating
To open the easel, push both release bars (8) slightly up-
wards (fig. B) and move the glass cover (1) in a vertical po-
sition where it locks firmly (fig. C).
Place the book on the padded support plates (9) (fig. D).
Adjust the distance between the two support plates (9) ac-
cording to the size of the spine. This is achieved by loose-
ning the locking screws (10) and moving the support plates
sideways. Tighten the locking screws (10) again.
Rotate the pressure release lever (7) counter-clockwise as
far as it will go, if applicable, until it reaches the position
shown in fig. E. Now lower the book support plates (9) by
turning the crank (13) clockwise until the glass plate (1) can
be positioned horizontally above the book. The glass plate
will lock automatically in the closing position.
Now turn the crank (13) counter-clockwise (fig. F) until both
pages of the book have reached the desired flatness un-
derneath the glass plate (fig. G).
In this way the contact pressure is set for the complete co-
pying procedure and will be readjusted after each turning of
a page automatically.
If necessary a quick pressure release can be achieved by
rotating the pressure release lever (7) clockwise (fig. H),
thus lowering the support plates immediately. In doing so
the crank (13) will move away from the easelʼs body. (This
is specific for lowered support plates.) To get back to the
previous contact pressure, just rotate the lever (7) counter-
clockwise.
Note: The position of the pressure release lever (7) can be
individually adjusted by pulling and turning the lever without
changing the pressure situation. The instructions above are
related to the factory setting.
The holding frame (11) serves as a support for larger
books or originals (fig. I). To position the holding frame
loosen the screws (3) on both sides. Pull the frame out up
to the stop. Swing it upwards until the securing tangs (4) on
both sides slip over the lower pins (6). Now fit the securing
tangs (4) between the pins (5) and (6) (see fig. K to N) and
tighten the screws (3).
To move the holding frame back to its resting position loo-
sen the screws (3) and touch the frame on both side rails.
Lift it until it is released between the pins and let it down un-
til it slides back. Move it backwards until the catch at the
end of the side rails rests on pin (2). Now tighten the scr-
ews (3).
3. Maintenance
Moving parts do not require maintenance in specific inter-
vals. If necessary, lubricate accessible joints with a suitable
grease.
To clean the class cover (1), that has an anti-reflective coa-
ting on both sides, use a micro fibre cloth and an alcohol-
based cleaning fluid.
4. Important note
Repairs should only be carried out by qualified persons.
