USING THE UNIDIRECTIONAL TURNING BEZEL*

The unidirectional turning bezel on your TAG Heuer, with its precision ratchet, is for the measurement of
dive time. The shape of the bezel is designed for easy hand rotation, even with diving gloves. For safety,
the bezel can only turn counterclockwise. If it is accidentally moved it will indicate a longer elapsed dive
9
time. At the start of a dive, turn the bezel so that the zero mark is in front of the minute-hand (fig. 2 ).
The minute-hand will always show the number of minutes that have elapsed since the dive started
(fig. 3 : 30 minutes have elapsed since the start of the dive).

AUTOMATIC HELIUM ESCAPEMENT VALVE*

The automatic helium escapement valve meets
the needs of hyperbaric divers who spend several
days in diving caissons and breathe a gas mixture
which is highly enriched with helium.
Helium is a very light and volatile gas, which may
infiltrate the watch on exposure to substantial
pressure in the caisson. When the diver rises to
the surface, all the gases expand as the pressure falls. The helium trapped in the watch is unable to
escape as quickly as it entered. Overpressure builds up inside the case and the valve will function
automatically, allowing the helium to escape and preventing damage to the watch.
