1. A d ju st yo u r w ire le ss d evices so that the sig nal is traveling in a straight path, rather than at
an a n g le . T he m ore m aterial the sig nal has to pass through the m ore sig nal you w ill lose.
2. K eep the n um ber o f ob stru ctio n s to a m inim um . Each obstruction can reduce the range of
a w ire le ss device. Position the w ire le ss d evices in a m anner that w ill m inim ize the am ount
o f obstructions betw een them .
3. Building m ate rials can have a la rge im pact on y o u r w ire le s s signal. In an indoor
e nviro nm e nt, try to position the w ire le ss d evices so that the sig nal passes through less
d ense m aterial such a s dry w all. D ense m ate rials like m etal, solid w ood, glass or even
furn itu re m ay block or deg rad e the sig nal.
4. A n te n n a orientation can also have a la rge im pact on y o u r w ire le s s signal. Use the w ireless
a da pter's site survey tool to determ ine the best antenna orientation fo r yo u r w ireless
devices.
5. In te rfe re n ce from devices that produce RF (radio freq uency) noise can also im pact yo u r
signal. Position yo u r w ire le ss d evices aw ay from anything that g en era tes R F noise, such
as m icrow aves, HAM radios, W alkie-Talkies and baby m onitors.
6. A n y device ope ratin g on the 2.4G H z fre q u e n cy w ill cause interference. D e vices such as
2 .4G H z cordle ss phones or o ther w ire le s s rem o tes ope ratin g on the 2.4G H z freq uency
can potentially drop the w ire le ss signal. A lth ough the phone m ay not be in use, the base
can still tran sm it w ire le ss signals. M ove the phone's base station a s fa r aw ay as possible
from yo u r w ire le ss devices.
If you are still expe riencin g low or no signal c o nsider repositionin g the w ire le s s devices or installing
add itional access points. T he use o f higher gain antenna s m ay also provide the necessary
co ve ra g e dep endin g on the enviro nm e nt.
