Includes:
• 3 Piece sorting pie
• 60 Fruit counters
• 3 Double-sided activity cards
• 2 Jumbo tweezers
The Super Sorting Pie is a delicious way to provide hands-on
experiences with early math concepts such as sorting, counting, number
sense, patterning, and beginning addition and subtraction. The pie has
a removable sorting tray that allows children to sort and count many
ways. Tweezers are included to give children opportunities to develop
fine motor skills while engaging in early math practice. Children are
sure to sort, count, and serve up some fruity pie fun!
Give children plenty of "free exploration time" to play with the pie,
the fun fruity counters, and tweezers to ensure familiarity.
Sorting with the Activity Cards
Place one of the activity sorting cards in the bottom of the pie and
secure the sorting insert tray on top of the card. Be sure the card is
lined up with the insert tray. Have children look into the sections of the
pie and sort the fruit counters into the correct sections.
Match Me
Pick one fruit out of the pie. Ask children to find a fruit that is a
perfect match for the fruit that was picked out. Line up the fruits next
to each other to make sure a match was found. Repeat this activity
with different fruits.
Fruit Picking Fun
Say the name of a fruit (add color as well, for greater challenges)
and ask the child to pick out that fruit from the pie using the tweezers.
Continue this activity to practice fine motor skills and also color
recognition.
Fruit Patterns
Make a pattern with the fruit counters and ask children to repeat
the pattern. Compare the patterns. Have children take turns making
a pattern for other children to duplicate.
What Comes Next?
Make a pattern with the fruit counters and say the pattern aloud. Ask
children to state what comes next in the pattern. Place the next piece
of fruit at the end of the pattern, name the pattern, and again, ask,
"What comes next?"
One of These Things is Not Like the Others
Place all the fruit counters into the pie. Pick out three fruits that are
alike in some way, such as the same color, the same shape, or the same
type of fruit. Then, find one piece of fruit that is different. Set out the
four fruits in a row and have children find the one that is different and
tell you why it is different.
Count Your Colors
Place all the fruit counters into the pie, without the sorting tray. Say a
number such as "five" and also say a color word such as "red." Ask a
child to find five red fruits, pick them out of the pie, and count them.
Repeat this activity using different numbers and different colors.
