    Equipment Service Proper installation and testing are essential to the correct functioning of the system. If you have questions, contact Vertiv and request monitor assistance. Except as explained in this manual, do not attempt to service Vertiv equipment. Any adjustment, maintenance or repair of this product must be performed by qualified personnel.

Preventive Maintenance This section describes preventive maintenance for the UXCT system. 2.1 Visual Inspection Visually inspect all monitor system components for damaged or frayed power cords and cables and for damaged component panels, controls, and connectors. When damage is detected, remove the equipment from service until the damage is repaired.

    System Overview 3. System Overview The Universal Xplorer Cell Temperature (UXCT) is a module that integrates into Vertiv series battery monitors to permit individual cell temperature monitoring. The module is also offered as a standalone monitor capable of continuously monitoring cell temperatures and ambient temperature for thermal runaway detection.

    System Installation 4. System Installation Note: The UXCT must be installed in a restricted access location. UXCT installation requires nothing more than standard hand tools, cutters, strippers and screwdrivers.     Mounting Temperature Sensors 4. Connect the temperature network interconnection cable from the previous sensor to the “IN” port on the sensor being installed. Connect another temperature interconnection cable to the “OUT” port for interconnection to the next sensor in the battery string. Snap the Sensor into the Sensor Tab Washer Mounting Clip.

    Use the screws provided to secure the rack mount brackets to the unit. Remove the upper two front screws of the existing Vertiv equipment and secure the UXCT to the equipment by replacing the screws through the stack bracket.

    Equipment Mounting If the flush/flat mount option is required, the optional angle brackets will need to be installed on each side of the unit. To connect the flush mount brackets to the unit, use the screws provided to secure the rack mount brackets to the unit.

UXCT System Connections The rear panel of the UXCT uses standard connectors to allow for easy connection of ground, power, temperature network communication, ambient temperature, alarms, communications, string selector, RS-485 and float charging current. The following sections illustrate where the connections are located and what they are used for.

Route the cable to the desired location to capture each battery cell temperature and plug the connector into the rear of the unit. Route cables to the desired location to capture ambient room temperature and plug connectors into the rear of the unit.

    UXCT System Connections 10.4 Fiber Optic Communication Connection – Not Supported The Fiber Optic ports are an optional communications port used to connect to a BDS controller but at the time of this printing, this option is not supported. When integrated with a BDS controller, the UXCT inherits a host of advanced features outlined in the BDS controller Product Description Guide.

    UXCT System Connections 10.5 Hardware Alarm Connection The Hardware Alarm Form C alarm contact provides notification if a hardware failure has been detected within the UXCT. This contact has three connections: • NC (normally closed) • NO (normally open) • COM (common) Connection can be made directly to the facility's alarm reporting system.

    UXCT System Connections 10.6 Thermal Runaway Alarm Connection The Thermal Runaway Alarm Form C contact provides notification if a thermal runaway is detected. This contact has three connections: • NC (normally closed) • NO (normally open) • COM (common) Connection can be made directly to the facility's alarm reporting system. If multiple units are used, then these contacts can be connected in series or parallel, depending on the requirements for the facility's wiring of NC (normally closed)or NO (normally open).

    UXCT System Connections 10.7 RS-485 Communication Connection There is one RS-485 port available for communications between the UXCT and remote controllers (BMS). When connecting to a remote controller, connect the A & B connection of RS485 port to the remote controller.

    UXCT System Connections port using MODBUS RTU/ASCII Master/Slave. The NET485-MB will take the serial MODBUS data stream and convert it to MODBUS TCP Ethernet packets with no changes to the product’s software. The NET485-MB also contains Jumpers to enable optional TX/RX Termination Resistors for long transmission lines.
