Page 12
Checking Thermostat Operation Important: • Do not short terminals on the gas valve or the system control board to test thermostat operation. This may damage the thermostat, and void the warranty. • Do not switch the unit to the “cool” mode if the outside temperature is less than 50 deg.
Page 13
4) Press the ^ button on the key pad again until the set point temperature is at least 3 degrees above the room temperature. The second stage of the heating system should turn on within several seconds. 5) Move the system switch to the “Off” position again. The heating system should shut off within several seconds although the fan may continue to run for several minutes.

Settings (see fig. 3) 1) Swing the cover up to the open position, and set the system switch by selecting either “Heat” (heating system), “Cool” (air conditioning system) or “Off”. 2) Set the fan switch by selecting “Auto” or “On”. “Auto” turns the fan on automatically when the heating or cooling system is activated.
Page 16
Press the up or down button to change the differential between .5, 1.0 or 2.0 deg F (.25, .5 or 1.0 deg C). A higher differential setting will cause the system to turn off and on less often, but the room temperature will vary more widely from the set point.
Page 17
Press the up or down button to change the differential between 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 deg F (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0 deg C). If the Residual Fan Delay (see next step) does not require setting, simply wait 15 seconds until the unit returns automatically to the normal operating mode.
Page 18
6) After pressing the “Return” key again (while in Residual Fan Delay setting) to set the Adjustable Hold Period, press the “Up” or “Down” key to toggle between Indefinite Hold and 24 Hour Hold.
Page 19
The default is Indefinite Hold. If the “Hold” key is pressed, the current set point will be maintained until Hold is released by pressing the “Hold” key again. If the 24 Hour Hold is selected, the current set point would be maintained for 24 hours or until the Hold is released by pressing the “Hold”...

8) Setting Time and Day of Week a. While in normal operating mode, press the “Day/Time” key. The display will clear except for the time, the am/pm indicator, and the day of week. The hour portion of the display will flash. b.
Page 21
Programming 1) Important- Read Before Starting 1.1 The current time of day and day of week must be set prior to entering any programming. This will avoid any problems with program execution. 1.2 The heating and cooling programs each have separate set point times and set point temperatures.
Page 22
1.4 Before programming, place the “System” switch in the appropriate heating or cooling mode for the desired program you wish to set. Do not attempt to program the thermostat with the “System” switch in the “Off” position. 1.5 When the “System” switch is in the heating or cooling position, the appropriate “HEAT”...
Page 23
Whole Week group- Provides the same settings for all seven days at once (“M”, “TU”, “W”, “TH”, “F”, “SA”, and “SU” icons appear in display) by allowing programming times and temperature settings at four separate times per day. If desired, individual day planning can be used to change individual set point times and temperatures.
Page 24
3) Inputting a Program 3.1 Place the “System” switch to “Heat.” 3.2 Press the “Prog” key to enter programming mode. The “M”, “TU”, “W”, “TH”, “F”, “SA”, and “SU” icons appear in the display along with the “MORN” icon, indicating that the morning time set point of the Whole Week group is being programmed.
Page 25
3.3 If you wish to use a different group or want to program each day individually, press the “Day/Time” key to select another group according to the following sequence: Whole Week – Weekday – Weekend – Monday – Tuesday – Wednesday –...
Page 26
3.7 Repeat steps 3.4 through 3.6 to enter the set point times and temperatures for the DAY, EVE, and NIGHT set points in the group or individual day while in heat mode. 3.8 If necessary, repeat steps 3.4 through 3.7 to program the other groups or individual days.
Page 27
Thermostat Operation 1) In normal operation (system switch set for heating or cooling), the display will show the room temperature in large digits, the set point temperature in small digits, the time of day, the day of week, and the current programming stage (MORN, DAY, EVE, or NIGHT).
Page 28
3) If the system switch is set to “Off” (no heating or cooling), the OFF icon will be displayed along with the current room temperature. 4) To activate the display backlight, press the backlight button at the top of the unit. Any of the function keys will also activate the backlight when pressed. Each time the backlight is activated it will stay on for approximately 10 seconds after the last key press.
Page 29
Additional Operating Features • Temporary Program Override While in normal operating mode, press the “Up” or “Down” key to temporarily adjust the temperature set point. The program indicator icon (MORN, DAY, EVE, or NIGHT) will flash indicating the Temporary Programming Override is in effect. The Temporary Program Override will reset when the next set point time is reached or after four hours, depending on which comes first.
Page 30
• Adjustable Hold Period Press the “Hold” button to maintain the current temperature set point and bypass the program schedule. The “HOLD” icon will appear in the display. The set point will be held until the hold is removed, or limited to 24 hours, depending on the selection made in Step 4 of the Thermostat Setting and Operation section.
Page 31
• Compressor Short Cycle Protection The thermostat automatically has a 5 minute turn-on delay after turning off the compressor to avoid short cycling and damaging the cooling system. This protection can be bypassed if the system is reset and should not be done other than for installation testing purposes.
Page 32
• Set Point Recovery Mode This feature is designed to maximize comfort by minimizing the amount of time for your system to reach a new set point after a setback period is completed. It also makes sure temperature set points are reached as closely as possible to the set point times by calculating when to turn on the first stage of your multistage system.
Page 33
battery icon will appear in the display. Once this happens, the batteries should be replaced immediately. Batteries are replaced by first opening the battery compartment door and removing the existing batteries. Two batteries should then be placed in matching the appropriate positive and negative terminals on the thermostat and the batteries.
Troubleshooting Symptom Potential Corrective Action Heating or cooling system 1. Check for the correct positioning of the system switch does not turn on. to the desired setting. 2. Check to be sure the set point temperature is above the room temperature (plus the differential setting) for heating (below for cooling).
Page 35
“HI” or “LO” is shown in The temperature the unit is measuring is higher or lower the display. than the display limit of 40-99 deg. F (5.0°C – 37.0°C). If the thermostat was subjected to a temperature out of this range just prior to installation, wait until it adjusts to the room temperature.
Page 36
System fan does not work 1. Check position of fan switch (see Settings section). properly. 2. Check position of Gas / Electric Switch (see Internal Switch Setting and Mounting the Thermostat to the Sub-base section). 3. Check wiring (see Wiring Diagram Section). Thermostat will not follow 1.
