  • Page 19: Outline

It is designed to be used under control of a separate controller KE-40B1 which also supplies power to the KS-19F. The KS-19F incorporates a leak sensor. If a leak is detected, an alarm output can be activated. As the KS-19F does not incorporate a fl ow control circuit for the sample fl uid, the fl ow rate of the sample fl uid must be controlled by external means.
  • Page 20: Particle Size Detection

Leak detection The KS-19F incorporates a leak sensor. If a leak is detected, the LIQUID LEAK indicator lights up in red and the LIQUID LEAK ALARM terminals become OPEN.
  • Page 21: Measurement System Confi Guration Examples

Outline Measurement system confi guration examples With the KS-19F, measurement control and processing of measurement results are entirely performed by the connected controller KE-40B1 or a computer connected to the KE-40B1. Confi gure your actual system according to the measurement requirements and types of sample fl uid.
  • Page 22 In this system, a pressure sampler is used to pressurize the sample fl uid, and a syringe sampler is used to draw the sample fl uid through the KS-19F. • Page 27: Preparations

Preparations Place of Installation Select an installation location for the unit, taking into account the points listed in the “Precautions” section (see page xii). Also observe the following points. Leave at least 10 cm of space around the unit to allow for heat ra- diation.
  • Page 28 Preparations Precautions against condensation The surface temperature of the fl ow cell inside the sensor section is ap- proximately equal to the sample fl uid temperature. You should control the environmental temperature and humidity at the location where the unit is being used so that no condensation occurs.

  • Page 31 Store the end plugs and plugs together in a safe place. The end plugs will be needed when the KS-19F is stored or sent to the supplier for servicing and maintenance. The plugs will be needed again when removing the sampling tube for storage.
  • Page 32: Removing The Sampling Tubes

Preparations Removing the sampling tubes 1. Purge the KS-19F with pure water to remove any sample fl uid rem- nants. If the use of pure water poses the risk of sample fl uid reaction and heat generation, hardening or particle accumulation, use a different cleaning agent that is suitable for the sample fl uids and fi nally purge with pure water.
  • Page 33 Preparations 4. Insert the plug into the fl ared section at the tip of the sampling tube and turn the nut clockwise to secure it. Important The fl ared section will contract slightly over time. Always store the sampling tube with the plug in place.
  • Page 34: Extending The Sampling Tube

When the KS-19F and external equipment are installed at a distance, or when the tube shape of the external equipment and the sampling tube supplied with the KS-19F do not match, the sampling tube can be extended using a union joint.
  • Page 35 Preparations 4. Rotate the other nut of the union joint counterclockwise to loosen it. Loosen Union joint body 5. Insert the tip of the extension tube for the external equipment into the nut as far as it will go. Extension tube Union joint body 6.
  • Page 36: Purge Gas

Preparations Purge gas In the cases listed below, the interior of the KS-19F should be cleaned with purge gas supplied to the PURGE air port, to prevent adverse effects on the optical system and electrical circuitry. If the cleanliness of usage environment is lower than classifi cation of air cleanliness class 6 defi ned by ISO 14644-1.
  • Page 37 (about from 10 minutes to 20 minutes). The PURGE air port connector is a one-touch type for dia. 6 mm tube. When the optional purge air unit is installed, the KS-19F can be used even if the cleanliness of environment is low.
  • Page 38: Before Supplying The Sample Fl Uid

Observe the pressure limits for the sample fl uid system. The fl ow cell and INLET and OUTLET of the KS-19F are made of sapphire and PFA. Never use sample fl uids which can cause corrosion of fl uid-con- tacting parts. Otherwise leaks or seepage may occur. The fl uid system of the KS-19F is designed to withstand sample fl uid with a pressure of up to 300 kPa (gauge pressure).
  • Page 39: Sample Fl Uid Fl Ow Rate Adjustment

The pressure in the sample fl uid system moves the sample fl uid through the KS-19F. Use a fl ow controller or similar to adjust the fl ow rate. For details, please refer to the documentation of the fl ow controller.
  • Page 40: Particle Size Setting Range

Preparations Particle size setting range Using the controller KE-40B1, it is possible to freely specify the size ranges for particle detection (up to 10 ranges). Please note the following limitations with regard to setting particle size ranges. • Particle size ranges can be set to 0.03 to 0.13 μm in 0.01 μm steps. •...
  • Page 41: Liquid Leak Alarm Terminals

Preparations LIQUID LEAK ALARM terminals When internal leak is detected, the LIQUID LEAK ALARM terminals of the unit become open. These terminals accept electric wire with a 1.25 mm cross section. • Page 42: Turning The System On

(See “Purge gas” on page 18.) The KS-19F does not have a power switch. The power of the KS-19F is also turned on when the power of the controller KE-40B1 is turned on. Important After turning on the power, wait at least 15 minutes before starting the measurement.
  • Page 43: Measurement

KE-40B1 connected to it. For details, please refer to the documentation of the controller KE-40B1. The KS-19F is not equipped with a means for adjusting the fl ow rate of the sample fl uid. Refer to the documentation of the fl ow rate adjustment device in the measurement system and adjust the fl ow rate accordingly.
  • Page 44 Measurement When CELL indicator is lit in red Status: Measurement may not have been carried out properly, due to excessive particle number concentration in sample fl uid, fl ow cell contamination, condensation, or other cause. • Page 46: Function For Cancelling Erroneous Count

Function for cancelling erroneous count Function for cancelling erroneous count This function is for canceling erroneous count caused by noise or other fac- tors and indicated by count values that are clearly different from the normal particle count. If such a count occurs during periodic measurement in auto- matic measurement mode, the value is replaced by data from the immediately preceding measurement or the moving average value up to the preceding measurement.
  • Page 47 Function for cancelling erroneous count Processing of erroneous counts If during periodic measurement a given period exhibits an abnormal count, the erroneous count is replaced by the count from the immediately preced- ing measurement. During moving average measurement, the moving aver- age up to the preceding measurement is used to replace the erroneous count measurement value.
  • Page 48 Function for cancelling erroneous count What to do when erroneous count occurs Changes in environmental temperature and other environmental conditions, contamination of particle detector assembly (fl ow cell) and optical system, changes in characteristics due to light source aging or prolonged use and similar factors can lead to an increase in erroneous count frequency.

    2. Clean the KS-19F by purging with pure water. It is not necessary to control the fl ow rate at this time.
  • Page 50 3. After suffi cient purging, pass pure water through the system at the prescribed fl ow rate (10 mL/min). 4. Verify that the CELL indicator of the KS-19F is now lit in green. If the CELL indicator is still lit in red, repeat the cleaning procedure from step 2, but use cleaning fl uid instead of pure water.
