Programmable Delay Controller
WARNING: During installation, disconnect the battery cables. When Disconnecting, always
remove the Negative cable first and install it last.

Note: Solid core spark plug wires cannot be used with this controller.
The MSD Programmable Delay Controller allows you to
program up to five delay time periods for five output
switches. Programming the delay timer and other
options can be done with the MSD PN 7550 Hand held
Monitor or with the MSD Pro-Data software on a PC with
Windows operating system.
The optional Hand Held Programmer/Monitor, PN 7550,
connects through the 9-pin connector on the Control and
features an LCD display that allows you to walk through
the controller menus as well as monitor the engine's rpm,
the current switch cycle, alerts and more (Figure 1).
There is also a computer disk supplied with the MSD Pro-
Data+ software. This software is for PC's running windows
95, 98, NT, 2000 or ME. All of the adjustable parameters
can be reviewed and set then uploaded to the Controller.

  • Page 2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Launch In This program allows user to select the polarity of the Dark Blue (Launch Reset) wire. It can be programmed to Reset when grounded or when connected to 12 volts. The default is Ground. For example, by connecting it to the positive side of the trans brake solenoid, it receives 12 volts when the trans brake is On.
  • Page 3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS LEDs There are six LED’s on the end panel of the Controller. The Red status LED will be on steady when the unit is turned On. Once the launch reset wire is activated (Dark Blue) this LED will blink rapidly (this is handy during clutch setup).

    Note: NHRA rules only allow one wire to be connected to the Trans Brake. Connect the MSD Dark Blue (reset) to the Trans Brake Switch. The Pink MSD wire will provide +12 volts (up to 300ma load) when the Launch Input is activated.

    Saved/Transferred to the MSD Controller. The software gives you the choice of automatically transferring the change to the MSD or the PC. Save to MSD: By saving the change right to the MSD, the new change is automatically put into the Controller.

  • Page 8 Notes Service In case of malfunction, this MSD component will be repaired free of charge according to the terms of the warranty. When returning MSD components for service, Proof of Purchase must be supplied for warranty verification. After the warranty period has expired, repair service is charged based on a minimum and maximum charge.
