Low Engine Oil Level Indicator
Lamp
The indicator lamp comes on with the
key in steering lock position 2 and
should go out when the engine is run
ning.
If it comes on with the engine running
and at operating temperature, the oil
level has dropped to the minimum
mark on the dipstick. When this occurs,
the indicator lamp will first come on
intermittently and then stay on if the oil
level drops further. If no oil leaks are
noted and there is no loss in engine oil
pressure, continue to drive to the near
est service station where the engine oil
should be topped to the "full" mark of
the dipstick (see page 70).
In addition to the indicator lamp, the
engine oil level should be periodically
checked with the dipstick, for example
during a fuel stop, or before a long trip
(see page 70).

Voltmeter

During vehicle operation and with elec
trical consumers turned on, the voltme
ter should indicate in the green area. If
not, turn off some consumers as
required.
Fuel Reserve W arning Lamp
The fuel reserve warning lamp will
come on when the key is turned to
steering lock position 2, and will go out
after the engine is running.
If the warning lamp stays on after the
engine starts, or comes on while driv
ing, it indicates that the fuel level is
down to the reserve quantity (8.5 liter
[2.3 US gal]).

Coolant Temperature Gauge

If the antifreeze mixture is effective to
- 3 0 ° C (-2 2 ° F), the boiling point of
the coolant in the pressurized cooling
system of your vehicle is approx.
125° C (257° F) (see also " Fuels, Cool
ants, Lubricants, etc.").
During severe operating conditions
and stop-and-go city traffic, the coolant
temperature may rise close to the red
marking.
Low Engine Coolant Level Indicator
Lamp
The indicator lamp comes on with the
key in steering lock position 2, and
should go out when the engine is run
ning.
If it comes on with the engine running,
the coolant has dropped below the
required level. You should then have
the engine cooling system checked for
signs of leakage and have it refilled as
soon as possible (see page 69).
Low Windshield and Headlamp
Washer Fluid Level Indicator Lamp
The indicator lamp comes on with the
key in steering lock position 2 and
should go out when the engine is run
ning.
If it comes on with the engine running,
the level of the reservoir has dropped
'A
to about
of the total volume and
should be filled again with washer fluid
to which about 3 capfuls of MB auto
shampoo have been added.
