SHU'M'ING THE SYSTEM DOWN
Description
To shut the system down means to end
all
current activities.
It
is
the only way to inlonn the system that the work has finished.
Once
this phase
is
completed, the user can only reinitialize the system.
Performing Shutdown From Disk
.
The "shutdown" command shuts down the system correctly.
To use
this command, the console workstation must be in the root directory and
the system must be in "multi-user" mode.
Once you have verified these
conditions, enter the following commaoos:
, cd
I
, shutdown 0
positions the workstation in the
root directory
starts the shutdown procedure
If
the shutdown command
is
entered when the console workstation
was not positioned
in
the root directory, the following message appears:

you must
be in
the root
directory
(J)
to
use.

your

by

Indicates the

shutdown
procedure.By
replying
y,
a message
is
sent to
all
active tenninals.
What happens
if you
reply n, is explained in
the note below.
The system asks you to
enter the message and at
the
end
press
ctrl
and
d
sim ultaneously.
