HMS 800 EXPANSION BOARD
The HMS 800 Expansion Board adds additional zone inputs and voltage outputs to HMS 800 controllers. Only one HMS 800
Expansion Board can be used on the HMS 800.
ABOUT ZONE INPUTS
The HMS 800 Expansion Board adds an additional 16 zone inputs (9-24) to HMS 800. Each of the 16 zone inputs on the HMS 800
Expansion Board may be configured as security zones, fire zones, temperature zones, or auxiliary inputs. Two-wire smoke detectors
can only be connected to Zone 8 on HMS 800 controller. Four-wire smoke detectors can be connected to any zone.
When using a normally open switch, a 1000-ohm end-of-line resistor must be in parallel with the zone being used. Maximum
loop resistance excluding end-of-line resistor should not exceed 150 ohms. "ZONE RESISTORS" must be set to "Yes".
When using a normally closed switch, a 1000-ohm end-of-line resistor must be put in series with the zone being used if "ZONE
RESISTORS" are set to "Yes". If "ZONE RESISTORS" are set to "No", the 1000-ohm end-of-line resistor is not used.
Maximum loop resistance excluding end-of-line resistor should not exceed 150 ohms.
The default settings for all zone inputs (9-24) on the HMS 800 Expansion Board are configured as Auxiliary inputs. Unused
zones may be left open, and should be left at the default setting.
Zone inputs on the HMS 800 Expansion Board operate the same as zones on the controller. Refer to the Installation Manual for
complete installation and operation instructions for zone inputs and a description of Zone Types.
ABOUT VOLTAGE OUTPUTS
The HMS 800 Expansion Board provides 8 programmable hardwired voltage outputs. These outputs are programmable for different
triggering and supply voltage applications. When set to the default setting of "General Purpose", these outputs are controlled using
Units 17-24.
Voltage Outputs on the HMS 800 Expansion Board operate the same as outputs on the controller. Refer to the Installation Manual for
complete description of programmable Output Types.
Outputs can supply a maximum of 100 mA each. Each output is protected from an overload condition. If an overload condition
occurs on an output, it will shut off and "Output Fault" LED (D18) will illuminate. To reset the output, remove the device causing the
overload condition, then press the "Reset Outputs" Switch (S1).
EXPANSION MODULE SETUP
The HMS 800 Expansion Board must be enabled in the controller under Setup | Installer | Expansion. When the HMS 800 Expansion
Board is being installed, make a note of the "ADDR" jumper settings. This jumper setting refers to the Module Type (Module 1 –
Module 4 ). The Module Type defines the function of each expander board on the controller. The Expansion Module is enabled when
the jumper setting matches a "Module Type" that is set to "Hardwire Expander".
Note: If a Wireless Receiver is used and the HMS 800 Expansion Board is also connected, all 16 zones (9-24) will be wireless zones.
Outputs 1-8 (Units 17-24) on the HMS 800 Expansion Board may be used; however the zones will be inactivated.
