Preface Preface Thank you for selecting the DocuScan C1500 (hereafter referred to as the machine"). This guide explains how to operate the machine and the precautions that must be fol- lowed during operation. To get the most out of the machine and to use it effectively, be sure to read this guide before use.
About the Provided CD-ROM About the Provided CD-ROM Set the CD-ROM supplied with the machine in the CD-ROM drive of the computer, and install the required software. The CD-ROM that came with the machine contains the following. Scanner Driver The scanner driver is software to import scanned documents on the machine to the TWAIN supported application on your computer.

If the power cord is damaged or insulated wires are exposed, contact your local Fuji Xerox representative for its replacement. Do not use a damaged or uninsulated cord to avoid the risk of electric shock and a fire accident.
Once you notice any unusual condition, switch off and unplug this product first and contact your local Fuji Xerox representative. Machine Installation Do not locate this product where people might step on or trip over the power cord.
To bundle wires and cables, always use the cable ties and spiral tubes that Fuji Xerox supplies. Otherwise, it may cause some defects. Operational Safety The operator's product maintenance procedures are described in the customer documentation supplied with this product.

1 Machine Components and their Functions Document catch tray A tray on which documents ejected from the back of this machine are stocked flatly. The document catch tray can hold up to 50 documents of the same size of normal 36" size paper or smaller.

Machine Components and their Functions Long size document holder This holder is used to insert long size documents into the scanner. Remove the U-turn output guide when installing the long size document holder. Roll the long size document with the side to be scanned facing inward and then set it on the holder.
1 Machine Components and their Functions Power On/Off Turn the power on when you use this machine. The machine is ready for operation within 30 seconds after the power is switched on. Turn off the machine at the end of the day or when it is not in use for a long period of time.
Power Saver Mode Power Saver Mode The machine has a Power Saver feature that will automatically lower the power con- sumption if no operation is performed for a certain time. The machine enters the power saver mode 15 minutes after finishing the transmission and reception of data between this machine and the computer.

2 Operating Procedure Setting Documents This section describes how to set documents into DocuScan C1500. Important ・ Jams may occur if excessive force is applied to documents when they are scanned. ・ When loading documents that contain holes, insert them so that the area with the holes is the trail- ing edge, otherwise a jam may occur.
Setting Documents Thin and soft documents When scanning thin and soft documents, load them with the U-turn output guide removed. If not removed, the U-turn output guide may crease the document. Setting Thick Documents You can scan documents up to 12.7 mm thick on this machine. When scanning thick documents, use the document thickness adjustment lever on the document handler.

Importing Documents by Direct Scanning Set the document. With the side to be scanned facing down, align the document with the document guide, and then insert it until the leading edge touches the inte- rior of the machine. Once placed, the document is automatically fed in and then stops at a certain position.
3 Maintenance Cleaning the Machine This section describes how to clean this machine. If there is any dirt on the reflection plate or glass of the document scanning unit, it may result in undesirable lines appearing on the scanned image. CAUTION Make sure to turn the power off before cleaning the machine.

4 Problem Solving Document Jams If a document is jammed on the document table, the machine stops with the error indi- cator lit. Clear the document jam, and then set the document again. Open the document handler by raising the lever at the right end.
