6.0 Servicing and Winterization

To r emove t he M -­‐160 f rom s ervice, i solate t he s prinkler f rom t he m ainline p iping s ystem
through t he m anual i solation v alve. M anually o perate t he e lectric r emote c ontrol v alve t o
ensure t he s ub-­‐lateral l ine i s n o l onger p ressurized.
6.1 W interization
Prior t o f rost a nd t he o n-­‐set o f w inter, v erify t here i s n o s tanding w ater w ithin t he s prinkler
body a nd i nternal c omponents. A s mall a mount o f w ater w ithin t he p iston d rive w ill n ot
cause f ailure w hen f reezing o ccurs.
During s pring s tart-­‐up, i f t he p iston d rive a rea i s f rozen, i t w ill t ake a pproximately 1 5-­‐20
minutes t o d efrost w hen t he a ir t emperature r eaches a pproximately 6 8

sprinkler h as b een i solated f rom t he m ainline s upply a nd t he s ub-­‐lateral l ine h as
been d e-­‐pressurized.
The M -­‐160 s prinkler i s d esigned t o b e s erviceable f rom t he t op w ithout h aving t o r emove
the e ntire s prinkler b ody f rom t he g round.
7.1 M aintenance
1. Clean t he i nterior o f t he M -­‐160 s prinkler b ody w ith a n i ndustry v acuum o r s imilar
equipment.
2. Remove a n o ver-­‐grown t urf a round t he p erimeter o f t he t op o f t he s prinkler w hen
located i n n atural t urf a pplications.
3. Verify t he s prinkler i s v ertical a nd p erpendicular w ith s urrounding g rades. A djust
as n eeded i f a ny s ettlement h as o ccurred.
When c hanging t he m ain n ozzle, t he t hreads o n t he n ozzle r etainer a nd s prinkler b ody
should b e c leaned a nd a pplied w ith a t hin a mount o f l ubricant. T his w ill e nsure e asy
replacement o r r emoval i f n eeded. T he o uter n ozzle r etainer s hould b e h and-­‐tightened
only. V erify t he n ozzle s ubassembly i s v ertical a nd p erpendicular t o t he t op o f t he s prinkler.
When i nstalling a n ew n ozzle m ake s ure t he d rainage p ipe o n m odels
ATTENTION
manufacturer p rior t o 2 009 i s i n t he p roper n ozzle h ole a nd t he O -­‐rings
are s eated p roperly, s ee F igure 1 1-­‐1.
