    Technical Description Technical Description Functional Description The Navigation Echo Sounder ELAC LAZ 5200 is designed for electro-acoustic vertical range measurement under water. The system measures the distance between the installation location of the transducer and the sea bed, and hence calculates the depth under keel. The depth information is calculated from the time between the transmission of a sonar pulse (underwater sound) and the arrival of the reflected sound waves.

    Other sonars or echo sounders – To avoid mutual interferences, it must be ensured during installation and configu- ration (in particular during transducer selection) that no other sonars or echo sounders use the frequencies of the Navigation Echo Sounder ELAC LAZ 5200. 4.2.3 Earthing Components must be earthed to satisfy the EMC requirements and to protect the person- nel from electric shocks.

    The device can switch itself on unexpectedly if a corresponding signal is sent via the lines X16/1 and X16/2 (Remote ON) (see interconnection diagram of the Navigation Echo Sounder ELAC LAZ 5200  9.1 "Applicable Documents"). This can result in dan- gerous electric shocks and other injuries.
