6.AutomaticLaneChange
Thevehicleperformsthelanechangeautomaticallyifthesensorsystemdoesnotdetectany
vehiclesintherelevantsafetyzoneandifthereissufficientroomformaneuveringavailable.Itisofno
importancewhetherthevehiclelanechangeisforpassingpurposesorwhetherthedriverissimply
wishingtochangelanes.
Thedirectionofthelanechangeisdeterminedbytheturnindicatorwhichhasbeenpreviouslyset.
G05AutomaticLaneChange
Thedrivermerelyhastomonitorthelanechange.Thisdoesnot,however,meanthatheisreleased
fromhisdutiesasadriver.Forinstance,thedriverisalsoobligedtocheckwhetheralanechangeis
permissibleatall,andhastotakeaccountofpassingrestrictions,solidlines,etc.AutomaticLane
Changedoesnottakethesecircumstancesintoconsideration.
Oncethechangetotheadjacentlaneiscomplete,thevehiclereturnstolaneguidance(Steering
Assistant).
Thelanechangemaneuverwillbeabortedif,onceithasstarted,theturnindicatorleverisreleasedtoo
soon(lessthanapproximately1second),aBlindSpotCollisionWarningwarningisissuedoranobject
isdetectedtothesideofthevehicle.Ifthelanechangemaneuverisautomaticallycancelledbeforethe
vehiclehascrossedthelanemarker,thevehicleisguidedbackintotheoriginallane.
Thedriverhasfullresponsibilityforthelanechangemaneuver,includingcheckingthatthedestination
laneisfree.
Themaximumsteeringtorquehasbeensetinsuchawaythatitcanalwaysbeoverruledbythedriver
andthereforesteeringpastthemaximumsteeringtorqueispossible.Thismeansthatthedriverhas
thecapabilityatalltimestoaborttheautomaticlanechange.
