AlphaCom XL has the possibility to send the alarm messages through the integrated GPRS-module. The AlphaCom XL can also be used in locations were there is no hardwired LAN connection, in this case the GPRS-module is used as the primary transmission device.
  • Page 8: General

GENERAL The AlphaCom XL is an alarm interface used to transmit alarm messages via IP to one or more central stations. The AlphaCom XL can receive /generate messages from: The PSTN connection The 12 inputs The serial connection, RS-485 bus and client-specific-application Internal (for example the tamper switch) and can buffer these messages in an event buffer of maximum 100 messages.
  • Page 9: Settings Accoridng To Local Requirements

AlphaCom XL complies with the regulations. In all other cases it is advised to program the tamper switch on the AlphaCom XL to cause an alarm when it is opened or to connect a push button to one of the inputs on the AlphaCom XL and program the necessary input definitions.
  • Page 10 The above information is based on the „Verbeterde Risicoklassenindeling VRKI 2007‟. For a full overview, see www.hetccv.nl. If all parameters have been set correctly the AlphaCom XL can be used in all cases !. In a AL3 situation the GPRS module must be present.

The subnet mask of the local network Tip: instead of using a local IP address and a subnetmask, the AlphaCom XL can also be set to work with DHCP (factory default). In this situation the AlphaCom XL will ask the DHCP server of the network to provide it with an IP address and a subnetmask.

See „Dipswitch settings of the ALPHACOM XL‟ (page 49) for a complete overview of all the dipswitch settings. ***) The AlphaCom XL is set to DHCP as factory default. If both AlphaCom XL and computer/laptop are connected to the same network, the AlphaCom XL can be traced using the Alphatronics Equipment Discovery Tool.
  • Page 13: Hardware Installation

Attention: when using the RS-485 bus you must take into consideration: the AlphaCom XL receives is power supply through the -+16VDC connections. This is always the case when the AlphaCom XL is delivered including power supply and batterypack in a synthetic casing.

The AlphaCom XL is equipped with an option to monitor the cable connection between the analog dialer of a control panel and the PSTN input on the AlphaCom XL board. To use this option jumper J19 must placed across pins 1 and 2. The outer 2 wires (1 and 4) of the telephone cable are used. Both wires 1 and 4 should be connected together on the side of the dialer in the control panel.

  • Page 16: Relay Outputs

Relay outputs The AlphaCom XL is equipped with 4 potential-free relay outputs. Outputs 1 to 3 can be activated by the end-user through the webinterface. Output 4 is the so-called trouble relay. This realy contact can be programmed to activate in various trouble situations. For programming options refer to the section „output programming‟.

Programming the AlphaCom XL can be done using a commonly used web browser. Supported versions are Internet Explorer (versions 5 and 6), Mozilla Firefox (version 1.5) and Opera (version 8.5).
  • Page 23 Port 80 is the standard web port, meaning it can always be reached, regardless of the used router or firewall. This is the reason for using port 80 in the ALPHACOM XL when dipswitch 2 is set to ON. Since this is not the safest port, make sure to program the used port in the ALPHACOM XL to a different one.

  • Page 28 The AlphaCom XL is delivered with a factory default MAC address. It is necessary to change the MAC address to the unique MAC address which is placed on a sticker on the AlphaCom XL board. The MAC address consists of a fixed part (manufacturer code) and a variable part. The fixed part of the MAC address is 00:01:3e, the variable part of the MAC address is placed on the sticker on the AlphaCom XL board.

Roaming is only necessary when using a GPRS provider that does not have its own GSM/GPRS network but uses networks from other providers.
  • Page 30 During a power up or after changing settings the AlphaCom XL will connect to the GPRS network to establish a connection with the network and check all settings. The results will be displayed in the status menu.
  • Page 31: Webserver Configuration

Webserver IP / port: The IP address of the webserver is the same as the IP address of the AlphaCom XL (see ethernet configuration) and it is not possible to change this setting. The port determines which TCP-port can be used by webbrowsers to connect to the AlphaCom XL.
  • Page 32 It is possible to limit remote access to the AlphaCom XL to just one IP address within the IP range. The AlphaCom XL has factory settings to be accessed through the local network. This does not mean that the AlphaCom XL cannot be accessed from a remote site. To access from a remote site the router has to setup to so that the external IP address will be rerouted to the internal IP address.

The settings for tamper switch apply for tamper switch S1 mounted on the AlphaCom XL board. This tamper switch can be used if the AlphaCom XL is mounted in a separate casing. It is advised to mount the AlphaCom XL in the same casing as the control panel.
  • Page 37 In certain situations the AlphaCom XL can also send tamper messages. When sending a tamper message the second letter of the SIA-HS alarmcode is the letter „T‟, for instance BT (Burglary Trouble).
  • Page 38: Pstn Interface Configuration

The PSTN input (CMK) simulates an analog telephone line. An analog dialer or security alarm system with integrated analog dialer can be connected directly to this input. The AlphaCom XL will simulate the analog alarm transmission to the central and receive the complete alarm message from the analog dialer.
  • Page 39 The setting „Acknowledgement after confirmation‟ determines when the AlphaCom XL will send an acknowledgement to the analog dialer that a alarm message was received. This can be immediately after receiving the message from the analog dialer.
  • Page 40: Serial Port Configuration

Serial port configuration The AlphaCom XL contains 3 onboard serial inputs for OEM applications, 2 serial ports are configured as RS-232 and the 3 is a RS-485 bus. Settings Serial port 1 The first serial port can be used for a so-called transparent serial connection over IP. For this application 2 AlphaCom XL boards are needed (or 1 PSTN2IP ML and 1 AlphaCom XL).

When a logline is received at the AlphaCom XL, it is checked to contain a colon (:) and at the left and right side of that column 2 digits. If the mentioned requirements are met, then the logline will be transmitted to the control station.
  • Page 42 The AlphaCom XL is also available in a version with synthetic casing, intergrated power supply and a back- up battery. When using this version it is also possible to transmit certain information back to the AlphaVision control panel. When selecting the YES option for „Tamper Alarm‟ then the status of the tamper switch on the AlphaCom XL is transmitted to the AlphaVision.
