code label on the package.
For accessories supplied with your Discman, check the area code of your model
and refer to "Supplied accessories" toward the end of this manual.

About this manual
The instructions in this manual are for the D-
170AN, D-171, D-171V, D-172CK, D-173 and D-
175. Before you start reading, check your model
number. The D-170AN is the model used for
illustration purposes.

The model and the serial numbers are located at
the bottom. Record these numbers in the spaces
provided below. Refer to them whenever you
call upon your Sony dealer regarding this
product.

Playing a CD right
away!
If you want to play a CD right now, choose to use your Discman on
house current. Other choices are the following three: rechargeable
battery, dry batteries (see "Power Sources" on the reverse side) and car
battery.

If the AC power adaptor does not fit the wall outlet, use the AC plug adaptor.
For models supplied with the headphone remote commander
• Connect the microplug of the headphones to the headphone remote commander, not to the
2/REMOTE jack of the Discman.
• Connect the headphones to the headphone remote commander firmly. A loose connection
may cause noise during playback.
