  • Page 17: Worktable (Optional)

6.5 Worktable (optional) The Kiddo Tilt is often provided in conjunction with a worktable. You can choose a fixed worktable system and a foldable worktable system. Here, a description is given of the functioning and the mounting and dismounting of the worktable. The worktable systems are shown in combination with a Kiddo Classic.
  • Page 18 The desired distance from the worktable in relation to the abdomen of the child can now be set, see the left-hand side of figure 13. On the right side of figure 13 it can be seen that the sheet can be completely removed this way.
  • Page 19 Foldable worktable system If the foldable worktable system is fold away it can be adjusted and removed such as the fixed worktable system. The action of this is described before. To get the worktable folded the star knob(1) (figure 12) has to get turned loose. Then the worktable system have to be pulled out of the armrest(3) (figure 14) so that the short worktable support (2) (figure 15) is free.
  • Page 20: Using Of The Wheelchair

    7. Use of the wheelchair Water, sand, leftovers, street refuse etc. When using your wheelchair you may encounter the above-mentioned pollutants which negatively affects the operation of your wheelchair. 1. Prevent your wheelchair from being partly or wholly submerged in water. If your wheelchair gets wet, or if you use water to clean the wheelchair, dry it again as well and as quickly as you can.
  • Page 21 Equilibrium point warning: The moment when the wheelchair tilts forward, backward or sideward depends on the equilibrium point and the stability. The most important adjustment of your wheelchair is the position of the seat in relation to the rear wheels. The further to the back the seat is positioned the better the wheelchair can be manoeuvred, but the risk of the wheelchair tilting backward increases as well.
  • Page 22 Reaching or leaning warning: Reaching and leaning affect the equilibrium point of the wheelchair. Failure to heed these warnings may result in falling or tilting and serious personal injuries. 1. Avoid reaching out or leaning, if this would mean changing your centre of gravity. Leaning forward may cause the wheelchair to tilt forward.
  • Page 23 Moving (making transfers or changing) warning: If you fail to heed these warnings, it may result in falling or tilting causing serious personal injuries. 1. Moving requires a proper balance and skill and may be quite dangerous. Remember that during moving there is a moment when the wheelchair is not supporting you. 2.
  • Page 24 the escorts pick up the wheelchair by the bottom of the seat in front and back the escorts lift the wheelchair carefully and try and find the equilibrium point of the wheelchair with the user in it. Detection gates When passing through a detection gate, for instance in shops, it may react to your wheelchair by sounding an alarm.
  • Page 25: Transport

    8. Transport Taxibus The Kiddo Tilt has been successfully tested by TUV Rheinland to be a “crashtest safe” wheelchair, in accordance with the ISO 7176-19 standard. It can therefore be transported with the occupant in it.  The Kiddo Tilt has been tested, with a test dummy (75 kg) fixed in position (facing forward) using a 3-point safety belt.
  • Page 26 (figure 15).  The Kiddo Tilt must be secured using anchoring systems that are suitable for the hook eyes (figure 15).  The wheelchair occupant must wear an approved* three-point safety belt in the taxibus.
  • Page 27  The abovementioned points of interest about seat belts are based on the ISO7176-19 crash test that is executed on the Kiddo Tilt.  If a worktop is fitted, it must be removed in order to prevent injury to other passengers. The worktop should be safely stowed away elsewhere in the vehicle.
  • Page 28: Adjustment Instructions

    9. Adjustment instructions Following the instruction one can adjust the wheelchair oneself in changing circumstances without having to consult the manufacturer. Since different people have a different posture and there are big differences between handicaps, it follows a wheelchair can be adjusted to the individual and not the other way round. The many adjustment options of such a wheelchair have many benefits for optimising a comfortable sitting position.
  • Page 29: Adjustment Of Seat Depth, Height Of Back And Back

9.1 Adjustment of seat depth, height of back and back Seat depth The depth corresponds to the thigh length and is measured from the front of the seat to the back. (figure 20) Figure 20: Seat depth In connection with the sitting stability, crooked sit or swabbing of the legs it is important that there is sufficient support across the entire depth.
  • Page 30 Turn the four bolts (figure 21) (1) something loose, so far that the seat can be pushed forwards or backwards. After setting the four socket screws were tightened by hand. Figure 21: Seat depth adjustment Checking the depth setting Between the front of the seat and the knees must be a space of 2-3 fingers wide located. This space is needed for a good circulation in the legs and prevents pinching of nerves and blood vessels.
  • Page 31 Back height (figure 22) Loosen the four socket screws(1) one turn and push the back up or down until the desired height had been reached. Next, hand-fasten the four socket screws(1) again. Figure 22: Back height adjustment Back angle Loosen the socket screws(2) one turn on both sides. Adjust the back until the correct back angle has been reached.
  • Page 32: Adjustment Of The Seat Height (Length Of Lower Leg), Knee Angle And Ankle Angle

In the Kiddo Tilt there are two ways in which the seat height can be adjusted. If the desire is from to go from the lowers position to sit 60 mm higher both ways will have to be implemented. The same applies to the situation where there you want from the highest position 60 mm down.
  • Page 33 Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Figure 23: Steps to adjust seit height...
  • Page 34 Method 2: The second method is raising the seat-unit between the inner fenders. The steps of by this method are shown below. These steps should be carried out on the left and the right side of the wheelchair.  Step 1: Tilt the wheelchair in such way that you can get by the countersunk head screws(1) (figure 24).
  • Page 35 Seat angle The seat angle is the angle of the seat to a horizontal line. This angle may, at the Kiddo Tilt set between -10 ° and 10 °. In general, a seat angle of 5 ° as pleasant. If the child primarily drive by his/ her own there is chosen for a larger seat angle combined with a low seat height.
  • Page 36 Adjusting a negative seat angle (figure 27) In this case, the child must leave his/ her wheelchair. Loosen the four bolts (3) which are for the fixation of the seat (see Step 3: adjusting the seat depth), fully and remove the seat. Then remove the seat carrier (1) through the four nuts(2) screws. Turn the left seat carrier(1) 180 °...
  • Page 37 Knee angle and ankle angle For setting the knee angle and the ankle angle loosen the screw(1) from figure 28. As a result the foot and leg support can be brought to motion. Adjust the position from the foot and leg support and tighten the screw(1).
  • Page 38 Step 1 Step 2 Figure 29: Adjusting the height of the footplate Step 3 advice: A ‘normal’ ankle and knee angle is 90° between foot and lower leg and between lower leg and upper leg. Therefore, for the depth and angle adjustment of the footrest the rule applies that the footrest is at the same angle as the seat and that the back of the footrest runs vertically parallel to the front of the seat.
  • Page 39: Adjustment Of The Balance

9.3 Adjustment of the balance The principle in the balance setting is that about 80% of the weight of the user is as close as possible above the rear will be located. The low pressure on the front gives a good manoeuvrability and low rolling resistance.

Figure 33: Adjusting the height of the handle barl To adjust the height of the pushing bar you turn the button(1) anti-clockwise a few turns.
  • Page 42 To set the button(1) in the same position as the pushing bar (figure 33) you press the red button with your thumb and this will allow you to pull the button(1) up with your index finger and middle finger and turn it. (see figure 35 below) Figure 35: Positioning the turn button...
  • Page 43: Adjusting The Headrest (Optional)

9.5 Adjusting the headrest (optional) The Kiddo Tilt is often provided in conjunction with a headrest. There can be chosen for headrest with or without spacer (for mounting belts and vests). Below, a description is given of the setting of a headrest with a spacer.
  • Page 44 (figure 37) Loosen the clamping lever(2) one turn, This will loosen the headrest(3). If desired, now the headrest can be taken out of the clamps. The fixation nock(4) can be adjusted in height. The fixation nock ensures that the headrest is positioned at the same height over again when the headrest was removed from the wheelchair.
  • Page 45: Defects And Maintenance

Defects and maintenance All Veldink4kids wheelchairs have been inspected and adjusted for immediate use when leaving the factory. Continuous use demands regular maintenance and adjustment, especially when the original settings have been altered. The initial settings, which were carried out by your consultant/dealer, should be in conformity with your physique and your personal preferences.
  • Page 46 In addition to the above-mentioned routine maintenance, both the frame and the upholstery should be cleaned regularly. Light dirt can be removed with a solution of a gentle detergent in hot water; rub with the nap of the material.
