Following two types charging algorithms are used to ensure return of 100% capacity
and also to prevent excessive gassing:
• Normal Charging (Fig 4.1A): This algorithm is used for normal day-to-day charging. Charging
is sequential: Stage 1: Bulk Stage (100% Duty Cycle which is equivalent to Constant Current)
Stage 2: Absorption Stage (Reducing Duty Cycles: < 100% and > 0% which is equivalent
to Constant Voltage)
equivalent to Constant Voltage).
• Equalization Charging (Fig 4.1B): This is carried out automatically after every 28 days or
manually. Stage 1: Bulk Stage (100% Duty Cycle which is equivalent to Constant Current)
Stage 2: Equalization Stage (Reducing Duty Cycles: < 100% and > 0% which is equivalent
to Constant Voltage)
equivalent to Constant Voltage).
Transition from one stage to the other will be controlled by the selected Voltage
Regulation Set Points as follows:
• Absorption Voltage Regulation Set Point "Va"
• Equalization Voltage Regulation Set Point "Ve"
• Float Regulation Voltage Set Point "Vf"
The above Voltage regulation Set Points will depend upon the type of battery being
charged. 8 sets of set points for 8 different types of batteries can be selected with DIP
Switches 2,3,4. This information is available as follows:
• At the back of the unit - Fig 5.2
• Table 6.1 under heading "Standard Battery Charging Programs" at page 43.
