Security code
The security code is supplied with the PC card. It protects your PC card against
unauthorized use. Keep the code secret and in a safe place, separate from the PC
card. If you key in an incorrect security code five times in succession, the PC card
will not accept the correct code for the next five minutes.
Short message
See "Text message".
SIM card
Subscriber Identity Module card. A small plastic card with an embedded
integrated circuit. The SIM card contains all the information the cellular network
needs to identify the network user. The SIM card also contains security-related
information.
SMS
Short Message Service. SMS is a network service provided by wireless providers. It
enables sending and receiving short text messages over the digital cellular
network. The standard length of a text message is 160 characters.
Text message
Short message that is sent over the digital cellular network. The standard length of
a text message is 160 characters.
WEP
Wired Equivalent Privacy. A security feature using the RC4 algorithm that
performs wireless data encryption. The WEP algorithm uses up to 152-bit keys.
Wireless provider
A company that offers telecommunications services, such as network services. A
wireless provider may be a network operator or a separate company.
Wireless providers offer a variety of network services, including GSM data services
such as the Short Message Service (SMS). Not all wireless providers provide
exactly the same services.
Wireless station
Any computing device with a PC card slot, into which the PC card can be inserted
in order to send and receive data.
